Pretty much every beauty trick and product recommendation we glean from celebrities (models, in particular) seems to be better than the last. We're not sure if it's thanks to the ever-evolving technology and product array within the beauty realm or just the smart and ingeniously out-of-the-box ways models and their expert makeup artists are using said technology and products. So when we heard Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls relies on one very unexpected product to deliver an instantaneous cast of shimmer and to permanently contour and sculpt her face, well, we practically fell over with gratitude.
Yep, cheekbones worthy of the Victoria's Secret runway can be yours—and found at Sephora, the drugstore, Amazon, or wherever you fancy shopping for a high-quality sunscreen.
As Smalls originally shared with Us Weekly, not only does the natural luminosity of an SPF impart a flawless hint of radiance atop already applied makeup and apply an extra hit of sun protection, but it's also a natural way to sculpt your face long-term—even when you aren't wearing the aforementioned makeup. "It makes the skin lighter because you're not tanning as much there," she explains. Brilliant? Completely. And honestly, we're not sure how we didn't think of the model-approved trick before this.
Of course, we recommend wearing a hearty helping of SPF as your base before (and in addition to) applying your makeup (a recent study actually says this is paramount—your SPF cream–and-foundation hybrids aren't cutting it) and then applying your extra layer of sunscreen on the highest points of your face (cheekbones, chin, bridge of the nose, etc.) as the last and final step before heading out the door.
