14 Times Jessica Alba Schooled Us in Great Hair

Can we just talk about Jessica Alba's hair? While "perfect" and "ombré" tend to be the first words that spring to mind, she's actually way more experimental with her look than you might think. It's hard to envisage her with anything other than that utterly dreamy balayage, but trust us, the rest of her hair portfolio is not to be forgotten.

Jessica is something of a braid aficionado, a firm proponent of the high pony, and has one of those face shapes that can pull off a fringe and sans-fringe style, no problem. We've got proof. Between the hyper-permed look of her Honey days and the toffee-toned dip-dye that's become her staple, she's played with color, length, style, and accessories, both on and off the red carpet.

To refresh your memory, we've rounded up 14 of Jessica's very best hair moments. Keep scrolling and click through our gallery to see the cuts and colors that made the, um, cut.

Alba was spotted out and about in NYC not only wearing the chicest jumpsuit we've seen all year, but also this pretty half-up, half-down style.

This wasn't the first or the last time Jessica chopped her hair into a chin-skimming bob. Is it just us, or is there something about this look that's similar to the Rachel?

We told you she can pull off a fringe. These center-parted bangs look as fresh today as they did in 2009, at the Sugar L.A. premiere.

Chic at Chanel, Jessica wore a tousled pony for A/W 10 fashion week, complete with plenty of body at the crown. The actress told Into The Gloss that when she needs to add some volume to her look, she spritzes John Masters Organics Sea Mist Salt Spray ($24) into the roots.

Jessica Alba hair: braids

Jessica joined the braid brigade at the 2011 BAFTAs, when she teamed this pretty 'do with red lipstick and a cobalt blue silk gown.

There was something princess-like about Jessica's look at the Met Gala 2011.

Segueing seamlessly from undone to sleek, Jessica reached for the straightening iron to get this look. As for the silky finish, it could be down to her deep conditioning habit. She told The Huffington Post: "Often, I go to sleep with conditioner on the ends of my hair and then in the morning rinse it off. If I'm going to the gym, I'll work out with it still on my hair, wrapped up."

jessica alba hair: retro waves

There's no place like the Golden Globes for a glamorous Hollywood side-sweep. To keep the curls modern for the 2013 award show, Jessica rocked her most dramatic dip-dye of all.

Jessica's hairstyle at the 2013 ALMA Awards had it all: major volume, beachy waves, and so much ombré. Teamed with nude lips and smudgy, smoky eyes, it's a forever-favorite look and serious contender for our favorite hairstyle.

Who could forget the time Jessica unveiled a cool faux undercut at Comic-Con? Her teeny-tiny side braid almost had us believing she'd picked up some hair clippers.

Has a high ponytail ever looked so good? At this year's Vanity Fair Oscar party, Jessica swept her hair up and wrapped a small section around the base of the pony.

Silky and soft with subtle balayage; this is a go-to look for Jessica. She told Into The Gloss she smothers John Masters Organics Dry Hair Nourishment & Defrizzer ($19) over ends when she wants a smooth finish.
