Jennifer Lopez
We all expected Jennifer Lopez to blow us away with her American Music Awards red carpet style and subsequent performance, but her head-to-toe wet look did that, and then some.
Immediately, we had to know exactly what was used for the dramatically glamorous moment and went to celebrity hair artist and longtime Lopez collaborator, Chris Appleton, for a breakdown of products used on J.Lo. A silvery, shimmery makeup palette completed the liquid look, thanks to expert application by Mary Phillips for Pat McGrath Labs, who also shared a rundown of what was applied tonight.
Ahead, get an inside look at Jennifer Lopez's slick American Music Awards hair and makeup.

Inspired by the season—"Nothing better than a fresh cut for fall," he says—Appleton wanted a wet look finish "as a sexy, wearable texture." On Lopez's damp hair, he applied Color Wow Dream Coat For Curly Hair ($24) to smooth, then blowdried with the Leandro Limited Carbon Ionic Hairdryer ($179.95) with the diffuser attached for extra control.
Next, Appleton sectioned dry hair into two-inch pieces before applying Color Wow Pop & Lock Frizz-Control and Glossing Serum ($20). Using a BaByliss PRO 1.25” Nano Titanium Curling Iron ($149) on the lowest heat setting, Appleton twists the iron through hair from roots to ends for loose waves.
Finally, Appleton blasts Color Wow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray ($29) "for the ultimate wet-look shine."
For Lopez's makeup, Pat McGrath Labs artist Mary Phillips went for a "sultry graphic liner with a modern '60s twist," she writes in a press release.
For a dewy, glowing complexion, Phillips pressed Skin Fetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo ($48) in Golden to the high points of Lopez's face to create what Phillips describes as "an iconic glow." In lieu of traditional blush, she blends Luxetrance Lipstick ($19) in LaBeija onto the cheeks, followed by Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio ($50) on cheekbones, the center of the nose, and cupid's bow.
For the platinum shimmer on Lopez's eyes, Phillips swirled the PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil ($28) in Xtreme Black "into the crease and on the upper and lower lash line to create the shape of the look and add depth."
She swept Mothership V Bronze Seduction Eyeshadow Palette ($125) in Entrapment as a base shade mixed with shades Eyedols and Statuesque on the lid, then Disobedient in Lopez's crease and lower lash line.
To round out J.Lo's show-stopping makeup, Phillips shaped her lips with PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil ($28) in Contour before filling them in with MatteTrance Lipstick ($38) in Christy, which Phillips calls "the perfect nude." The entire thing was topped off with Lust: Lip Gloss ($28) in Gold Allure for an extra boost of shimmer.
With (virtual) holiday parties around the corner, this glittery look is one we definitely plan on trying for ourselves.
