Hands down, Jen Atkin has the coolest hair. She also has the ability to give everyone—from celebs to influencers—cool-girl hair, too. Her hair product line Ouai Haircare enables us to get that aesthetic in our own bathrooms. But in a recent interview with Man Repeller, Atkin revealed that some of her favourite hair products aren’t by Ouai Haircare. How refreshing, right?
“I’m still a pro hairstylist and use everything!” she told Man Repeller. “I currently love and use Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Balm (£32), Balmain Session Strong Hairspray (£10), Bleach Hard AF Hairspray (£6) and Rita Hazan Root Concealer (£20).”
The other signature of Atkin’s is that the hairstyles she creates are low-maintenance. She understands her clients are busy, and says, “I hate the misconception that beautiful hair takes all day to achieve. It’s not true! You don’t need a glam squad to look your best.” Atkins continues, “I tell all my clients and followers that the Dyson Supersonic (£299) is key for quick-styling because it’s so smart. The focused airflow cuts down on styling time, the nozzles are easy to change and it’s temperature self-monitors so that it never causes heat damage.”

Of course, she rates her own products as well. She revealed to Man Repeller that if she was stuck on a desert island, she would take Ouai Wave Spray (£22). “Sea salt can dry out your strands, but Ouai Wave Spray actually uses rice protein to create texture in the hair instead of salt. Your strands will love it,” says Atkins.
Aside from the Wave Spray, she also relies on the Ouai Leave-In Conditioner (£22) before she blow-dries. If her hair is oily, she’ll use the Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam (£24). “If I need texture, I add Ouai Dry Texture Foam (324) to my ends and work my way up. I swear you’ll have the best hair of your life, smell amazing and be out in five minutes or less,” says Atkins.
Atkins also revealed the best drugstore hair product: “A toothbrush! I use one to tame flyaways. All you need to do is spray a little hairspray on the toothbrush and brush down any stray hairs along the part and hairline.”
[Ed note: Try a bamboo toothbrush, as they are more eco-friendly].
