As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we've tried. Whether it's a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us during winter, you'll find all of our favourites in this column. Enjoy!
I have long believed that summer holiday skin is the best kind of skin. Warmth and salt water agree with me (along with ample shade, and a good quality SPF, of course), and I often spend the winter pining after the glowy complexion I am blessed with through December to February. But earlier this month, I discovered a way to keep my glow on 100 not just during the warmer season, but all year long. It comes in the form of the James Read Tan Express Glow Face Mask, and whilst it isn't exactly brand new, I am only discovering it now, and my god—I can't believe I've been missing out.
It's a self-tanner and face mask all in one, but the real kicker is that it works in just half an hour. Literally in the exact same amount of time it takes to watch an episode of Friends. In short, I'm hooked. Keep scrolling for the details.
Labelled a face mask, this product is packed with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera for juicing up tired, dehydrated skin, but it also contains DHA (the active ingredient in tan that develops), so not only are you getting hydration, but a healthy flush of golden colour.
You apply it as you would a moisturiser (but onto clean, dry skin), and within 30 minutes, a light tan will develop. Or, you can do as I did and rinse after 90 minutes for bronzed, glowing skin. The effect was clearly noticeable, but super natural (note: I've got medium to olive skin, and the shade is advertised as "universal", however I wouldn't recommend for deeper skin tones). Initially, I combined it with self tan on my body, but have since used it without for a little boost, and it works just as well (just be sure to blend into decolletage and hairline).
If you've used the brand's cult Sleeping Mask, you'll find this is like a turbo-charged option.
If you need more info, it's got rave reviews on Mecca, too. Come summer, it's a great way to give your skin a boost without sun exposure, and keep the glow alive once work (and the air conditioned offices that come with it) rolls back around next year. It's kinda' like eight hours of sleep and a day off work in a bottle, and who doesn't want that?
