We expected Jamie King to know a thing or two about beauty: there’s no doubt the former model picked up heaps of knowledge backstage given that she’s been in front of the camera since age 14. What we didn’t expect were the similarities between King and her Hart of Dixie character, Lemon Breeland. She might not be as Type A as the scheming Southern belle she plays on TV, but King is meticulously committed to her beauty routine: daily exfoliation, religious use of SPF, and gentle hair care.
King swears by Dove’s Sensitive Skin Body Wash ($9) and Kiehl’s Lavender Exfoliating Scrub ($28) followed by a heavy dose of Alba Botanica’s Body Lotion ($10). “I use the Coconut or Cocoa Butter because they smell really good and they’re good for your skin,” she says.
"I really don’t go in the sun, I’ll go in for about ten minutes a day because you do need Vitamin D, but I like to be white, white, white. I use Skinceuticals’ Daily Sun Defense ($38)—it’s the best,” she says.
“I have to color my roots every three to four weeks, so I use a mask from Kerastase every few days to keep it healthy,” King says. (Try the brand’s Nutritive Highly Concentrated Nourishing Treatment ($54) for deep conditioning.) On a daily basis, King reaches for Davines’ Momo Shampoo ($22) and Conditioner ($24). “My hair is curled every single day for my show, so I need something to keep it really smooth, silky, and shiny.”
King attributes her love of Rembrandt’s Stain Dissolving Strips ($20) to her life in front of the camera. “I use them on set because they just dissolve in your mouth,” she says. The actress also stashes the brand’s Intense Stain Whitening Toothpaste ($7) in her bag. “I probably brush my teeth four times a day,” she says. “When you’re acting and you’re close to people all the time you just have to!”
"I know it’s so bad to use deodorant with aluminum, but every natural one I’ve tried sucks,” King says. “I’ve been wearing a natural formula for the past week, but I ended up going to buy a travel-size stick of Secret because I was sweating,” she says. Post-shower, King spritzes on Le Labo’s Santal 33 ($220).
King waxes poetic about her love of exfoliation. “I use my Clarisonic every night. If I don’t, I definitely notice a difference,” King says. “I use Skinceuticals’ Micro-Exfoliating Scrub ($28) on my face and I love everything from Kate Somerville, especially ExfoliKate ($85)—that one is really good.”
“I have a great beauty secret! My favorite eye makeup remover is by Koh Gen Do called Cleansing Spa Water ($39). I live for it—it’s everything!” King says. At night she uses AmorePacific’s Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Serum ($100).
In King’s makeup bag you’ll find Chanel’s Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup ($55), YSL’s Touche Eclat ($40), and her new favorite mascara, Koh Gen Do’s Long Lush Treatment Mascara ($36). “It kind of makes your eyelashes stick together and look a little patent-leathery—it’s really cool,” King says.
“All girls should be able to contour, I like Make Up For Ever’s Sculpting Kit ($48),” she says. “They used to only sell it in one big kit, but now they have these small palettes which are so nice!” (YouTube is full of contour tutorials for us non-models to learn!)
