Indya Moore has already been dubbed one of TIME's most influential people in recent years, and her impact is just getting started. The actress and activist has also recently added Yves Saint Laurent Beauty brand ambassador to her growing resume and stands alongside Zoe Kravitz, Dua Lipa, and Lil Nas X as faces of the brand.
We met up with Moore in a swanky New York City hotel penthouse to discuss her new gig with the luxury brand and to preview a handful of new launches. Naturally, she looked flawless in a face full of YSL Beauty, dished on her favorite makeup products, her bedtime beauty ritual, and when she feels most powerful. Read ahead for more.
The One Thing She Does Before Bed
"My skin gets much drier during this time of year, and my schedule is sporadic. Some days, I spend a lot of time outdoors, and others indoors. To ensure I'm prepared for the dryness and changing climates, I have a homemade mixture of coconut oil, shea butter, and lavender oil that I slather on before bed and when I wake up. It keeps me moisturized and can also be worn under makeup. The lavender also adds a great aromatherapy component that helps keeps me relaxed."
The One Foundation She Can't Stop Wearing
"The YSL Beauty All-Hours Luminous Matte Foundation ($56) is amazing. This product doesn't transfer, so when you're hanging with your girlfriends or at an event and you hug someone (I'm a hugger, so this is important), you don't want to have to worry about your makeup rubbing off on anyone's clothes. I also love the Rogue Pur Couture High Pigment Lipstick ($39). The formula lasts really long, and you only need one coat for color that really pops."
The One Thing She Does to Feel Powerful
"I feel most powerful when focusing on myself and having autonomy over what is going on in my life. I love having control over my schedule and tasks so I can plan accordingly. I try to let go of the things I can't control, while minding my business and taking charge of my life. That's when I feel bold."
The One Thing She Does For Self Care
"I had my first massage within the past four or five years, and even before that, if I didn't have access to a massage, I'd take time to rub myself down after a bath. I love to lather myself in nice body oil and work on my muscles. I like to focus on my feet too. They carry me through so much, and they're so easy to forget about. I also love to take long walks, and I get the best exercise when I am out in nature."
The One Hairstyle She's Excited to Try
"I've always been passionate and proud of my hair. It's always made me feel really strong and confident. I take care of my hair like I take care of the rest of my body. I exfoliate my scalp, avoid using too much heat, and try to keep it protected.
"I've been thinking about trying different hairstyles, which is something I've never considered. I'm always like, my hair has to be natural, but hair is about freedom and autonomy, so I've been thinking of trying new things. I'd love to play around with length and braids. I've also been playing with the idea of locking my hair as a commitment to myself, but haven't been able to take the plunge yet."
