One of the most common questions we hear from Byrdie readers is how they can get away with going more than a day or two without washing their hair. While some consider dry shampoo as essential to their survival as air and water (guilty!), it doesn't work for everyone's hair type. That means some of us are forced to shampoo up to seven times week, which can be ridiculously time-consuming, not to mention drying for your hair and scalp.
But whether you're a dry shampoo connoisseur or still looking for one that works, we guarantee this new product launch will intrigue you. It comes from Ouai, the cool-girl haircare brand that premiered last year from superstylist Jen Atkin (whose celebrity client list includes Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, and Chrissy Teigen, among others).
The innovative product is a dry shampoo "foam," which works to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and hair without your having to get in the shower. Though a few dry shampoo foams are available at the drugstore already, this is haircare's first luxury take (and it promises to deliver the best results yet).

Here's how Ouai's new product works: Coming out of the bottle in foam form, almost like a mousse, the formula is centered around two key ingredients. The first is something called diatomaceous earth (which sounds a bit like the name of a sci-fi movie), which works to nix dirt and buildup from your hair and scalp. The second is panthenol, which acts as a conditioner to restore softness.
As Atkin demonstrates in the video above, applying the product is very simple. Massage a dollop of foam into your roots, just like you'd do with regular shampoo in the shower. The product dries almost instantly, leaving your hair clean and volumized. Atkin uses the product on her third-day hair, which looks alarmingly fresh and full afterward.
Ouai's foam is sulfate-free and cruelty-free, so you can go days without showering and not feel a tinge of ethical guilt. Better yet, the product flaunts the brand's signature gardenia scent, which has stolen the hearts of every editor at Byrdie.
You can't buy the product just yet—it launches January 13 on theouai.com and sephora.com. In the meantime, we highly recommend you check out Ouai's other top-reviewed products, including my favorite surf spray on the market (the Wave Spray, $26) and their original Dry Shampoo ($24).
