Don't get us wrong—we love a center part (hello, Ali MacGraw). And in the end, the way you part your hair is a personal choice with no wrong answers. But accordng to hair guru Ken Paves, there's a reason A-listers often hit the red carpet with a deep side part (hello, Veronica Lake): Doing so really emphasizes the eyes, making a dramatic makeup look pop all the more.
"A deep side part draws attention to the arch of the brow to show off the eyes," Paves tells us. And there's a trick to finding your most flattering spot. "If your part points toward the highest part of your brow arch, it will add that much more intensity to your makeup," he says. The best way to do this is with wet hair, but not to worry if you want to try it on dry locks in a pinch—a spritz of gloss-enhancing hair spray (like his own You Are Beautiful Flexible Hold Hairspray, $13) is all it should take to lock it in.
Of course, it's not all about the eyes, but Paves has another one-second trick for taking the look to the next, face-flattering level: Simply tuck your hair behind one ear to emphasize your jawline and cheekbones, too.
