Color-treated hair needs a little more TLC. Carve out time every week or every other week to repair processed hair.
All masks are not the same. Be sure to read instructions and ingredients so you know what you’re getting yourself into and what results you can expect. Shop formula by hair type: blonde hair, curly hair, dry hair, etc., and by process time (they can take anywhere from 10 minutes to overnight). Find one that makes the most sense for you.
It seems strange to abandon the natural conditioning oils our hair has built up before applying a mask, but that’s just what you should do. Masking unwashed hair can result in the weighed-down, wet look that’s not cute and not likely the goal.
Always apply hair masks (and conditioners) to the ends of your hair, avoiding the roots. You'll avoid that weighed-down look and need to use less dry shampoo in the days that follow. Plus, hair at the roots is younger. The idea is that since it has been through less trauma, it requires less repair.
Applying a hair mask by hand is great, but it doesn’t always reach every strand. Try combing through with your fingers or an actual comb, especially if you have thick or curly hair.
