Welcome to 3-Minute Read, your midweek rundown of everything we're talking about at Byrdie HQ. Every Wednesday, we'll get you up-to-date on the beauty news you need to know—in just three minutes.
That's according to research presented at the British Association of Dermatologists's Annual Conference last week. When scientists asked study participants to apply SPF to their faces without any further instruction, on average, people missed 9.5% of their skin.
The good news is that the scientists were able to see which areas of the face were most neglected so that we can all practice safer sun in the future. It turns out people tend to skip their eyelid area—and even more specifically, 77% of the participants missed the inner corners of their eyes and the bridge of their nose.
This all being said, if you've ever gotten sunscreen in your eyes (and if you haven't, who are you?), you're probably just doing what you can to avoid that hellish sensation at all costs. But we have a life hack for you: If you reserve an SPF-fortified face mist for that tender eye area, you'll avoid the sting and still be protected. (Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist, $12, is great for this.)
Do you think mental health days should carry the same weight as sick days? We're definitely on board with that logic—as is Ben Congleton, the CEO of software company Olark. After one of his employees sent out a candid OOO to her team explaining that she would need to take a mental health day, Congleton penned an email personally thanking her for being so open about her whereabouts—and their story promptly went viral.
"I use it as a reminder of the importance of using sick days for mental health," he wrote. "You are an example to us all, and help cut through the stigma so we can all bring our whole selves to work." Sadly not all organizations and employees see mental health days as a viable reason to take off from work—but here's hoping that this heartwarming exchange takes us one step closer.
No big, but the pair got together to film a getting ready video sure to stop the hearts of beauty fans everywhere. Below, watch them banter, reveal some of their must-have products… and play with the KKW contour sticks, natch.
No sad airport fruit cups or gas station trail mix to be found here: Karlie Kloss took to her YouTube channel to reveal her go-to breakfast when she's traveling, and it's actually appetizing. When possible, Kloss likes to find an egg white omelet with avocado and tomato (she keeps a bottle of ketchup in her bag, which—genius). In a pinch, a protein bar will do. Head over to YouTube to get more of her pointers.
You no longer have to beg your American cousin to ship you Boy Brow in bulk. The brand announced today that it's (finally) rolling out international shipping, so head over to the site to find out when it's arriving in your country.
