You may know Holifrog for their nutrient-rich cleansers but their latest launch is a first for the brand. Their newest launch the Galilee Antioxidant Dewy Drop ($52) is a product that defies category, the hybrid doubles as a moisturizer and serum depending on how you use it. The lightweight elixir gives you all the hydration of a moisturizer and all the healthy skin benefits of a serum, restoring, repairing, and gently exfoliating. The look is soft, bouncy, and of course, dewy skin.
Let’s get into some of the key ingredients in the serum that get to work on your skin. First up, aloe vera, the natural anti-inflammatory we go to for soothing and calming skin does exactly that, plus it’s hydrating. Next up, another all-natural and powerful hydrator, squalane, also helps restore your moisture barrier and strengthen skin cells. Azelaic acid calms skin and gently removes dead skin cells. The ingredient is also ideal for acne-prone skin.
Lke I was, you’re probably curious about the texture asking yourself "What exactly does a serum-moisturizer hybrid feel like?" It’s somewhere between the two. It’s thicker than your average serum but thinner than your regular moisturizer, yet it still functions well as both. The application is silky and smooth like a serum or oil but the payoff is instantly hydrated skin like you’d get with a moisturizer.
I applied about a dropper and a half of the product after cleansing and toning morning and night. The results were healthier-looking skin, that looked and felt hydrated enough to skip my moisturizer and follow up with an oil to seal in the moisture. My skin was also super soft the next morning. I have combination skin so moisturizer is a step I never, ever skip, and now I’ve replaced two steps in my routine.
I also tested this in the middle of a particularly bad hormonal breakout which really put the calming and anti-inflammatory ingredients in it to the test. The results weren't visibly dramatic but it did calm some of the redness and swelling of my breakout. I'm tempted to store it in the fridge to see how much better it would work cooled but in the meantime, it's become a staple in my routine and I'm very happy to skip a few steps.
