Ever wondered what the ideal haircut is for people with thin hair? You're not alone—many people with finer textures are looking for ways to create volume and complement their facial features, and luckily, years of expert stylist techniques have led to some definitive answers.

If you're looking for one definitive style that's sure to work great with thin hair, Carolyn Aronson (hairstylist and founder of It's a 10 Haircare), and celebrity stylists Justine Marjan and Jessica Shakir say the bob is your best bet. "Shorter styles work best with fine hair because [they] make the hair appear thicker," says Aronson. "It's important to keep thin or fine hair regularly trimmed because it's fragile; the ends may split easily."

Luckily, the bob is somehow both classic and trendy, especially during the summer. Keep scrolling to find the three most versatile bob styles to try so your thin hair texture looks its healthiest and most beautiful yet.

The Layered, Asymmetrical Bob

"The asymmetrical bob has one side cut shorter than the other, with a side part in mind, and as a result, your hair seems fuller than it is," Shakir says. "Even if you don't do an asymmetrical cut, you can style your hair in a deep side part to add fullness. In fact, by changing things up and doing a different part, you can add crazy volume to your style."

She adds, "I love massaging the NuMe Root Werk Root Lifter ($18) into the scalp to create volume that stays for hours. This wonder product smells amazing and really lifts without creating a thick, gritty texture. Simply spray a couple inches away from the roots of your wet hair before you blow-dry to create perfect texture, or you can use Root Werk Root Lifter as a texturizer on dry hair."

"Overdirecting the hair while blow-drying also helps to give lift to the root and add more volume to any style," Aronson says. "Flip your head over to help in lifting the root by blowing it straightforward with a vent brush."

The Blunt Bob

"If you have thin hair, you’ll want to keep the ends blunt instead of feathering them," Shakir suggests. "This gives the look of density and thickness."

"Overlayering and too much texture can make fine hair look thin and limp," Marjan says, agreeing with Shakir. "Blunt cuts make the ends appear fuller and healthier."

"The long bob looks amazing on just about everyone, and it's especially life-giving to those who have thin hair," Shakir explains. "Soft, face-framing layers will add dimension and fullness without weighing you down. You can also ask your hairstylist about adding internal layers to your shoulder-grazing locks, so you can keep the length of your hair while adding the volume you desire."

She continues, "To add just the right amount of texture, grit, and hold to your mid-length style, I love Davines Your Hair Assistant Blowdry Primer ($35). It does exactly what you would expect: It primes your hair for your blowout by adding volume and grit. The lob is one of my favorite haircuts, and the easiest way for me to blow dry my own hair is to use the Rotating Hot Air Brush by Conair. This brush has a multidirectional rotation feature that helps reel in a section of hair, heat it up, and release the hair all in one pass. The brush also has a cooling button so you can shape each section of hair while it's still coiled."
