Hailey Bieber is huddled on the sofa at Soho Farmhouse in a red sweater and pants layered under a red faux-fur coat, her hair is pulled back into two neat braids and she has barely any makeup on. She’s cool, calm and collected, completely relaxed. Her skin is so perfect that she can pull off the no-makeup makeup look effortlessly. That’s not to say Bieber doesn’t wear makeup, though. During our five-minute chat, she is most animated when talking about the new BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Stick Foundation SPF 25.

In September of this year, Bieber (then Baldwin) was signed on as a face of the brand’s new “Power of Good” campaign. Talking about BareMinerals comes easily to Bieber since she has a long-standing relationship with the brand, recalling that her mum has used the iconic loose mineral powders for as long as she can remember.

From the skincare tool and in-salon facial Bieber relies on to her favourite BareMinerals buys (plus the unlikely product she uses as a highlighter), keep scrolling to read Byrdie’s exclusive interview with Hailey Bieber.

What’s your first BareMinerals memory?

My mum has used the brand for a long time, and I always remember seeing the Mineral Veil and the blush in her bag. She still honestly uses it to this day.

You’re the queen of effortless makeup. Any tips for our readers who want to do a look quickly?

I think they have to choose what they want to focus on. So like, for you, if it’s skin, just know what products work for you and throw those on. If it’s more about the eyes, know what works for that. I know what I like to use, so it’s easy for me to just pick it up and do it quick.

I just really like minimal makeup—a bit of concealer, a bit of powder, little bit on the cheeks, highlighter, mascara… Those are the steps for me the majority of the time. I never take more than 10 minutes with my makeup.

You have incredible skin. What’s your secret?

I never sleep or travel with makeup on. I always wash my face, use serum and lotion, and sometimes I’ll use an oil if my skin’s a little bit drier. I usually wear an oil on the plane as an extra moisture barrier. That’s kind of it. I use a rosewater face mist too.

BareMinerals has always been a clean beauty line and is highlighting that through its new tagline, “Power of Good.” How important is clean beauty to you?

It's definitely important to me. I like clean beauty products that are natural, organic and made without chemicals. We already have to deal with so many harsh things in the air. With travelling and pollution, it’s nice to know that when you’re putting something on your face, you don’t have to worry about it.

Do you use any beauty gadgets?

Yeah, I use a jade roller and a derma-roller too. I put my serum on first and then derma-roll it in once a week.

Have you picked up any beauty tips working as a model?

Ahh man, there’s been so many. Less skills and more products like Eight Hour Cream or Aquaphor on the cheekbones—little things like that. You wouldn’t think it, but they give you a little something extra.

You have great lashes. Do they have their own routine?

Really? Kendall [Jenner] has the most insane lashes. If you’ve ever seen her in person, she has these big doe-y eyes and the longest eyelashes I have ever seen, so when people say I have nice lashes I’m like, “Really? Have you seen Kendall’s?” They are insane. But thank you! I don’t really ever do anything for them. I never curl them. It’s because I take a lot of hair vitamins since my hair is so brittle. I think it’s helped with my eyebrows and eyelashes.

Are there any beauty treatments you swear by?

[There are] definitely some I swear by. I’ve done LED lights on my face. I’ve done that a lot and I think they really help.

You had pink hair earlier this year. Are there any other hair trends you’d like to try?

There are definitely other colours I’d like to do. It's just hard because I just did my hair a little bit darker toward my natural hair colour. What I really want is it to be longer and one length. It’s hard because I’ve done so many different things to my hair. I’ve cut it and it’s layered, but I just want it to grow so I can cut it all one length again. So I'm in the awkward phase right now.

What’s your favourite decade for beauty?

The ’90s. Everything was just so fresh and cool—the clothes and just everything.

What are your favourite BareMinerals products right now?

I love the Mineral Veil. All the Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Glosses are great and a really good consistency. It’s not out yet, but the Complexion Rescue Stick is coming in March, and it’s really smooth, creamy and easy to use. I shot the campaign for it, so I know a lot about it! I love anything multipurpose. On the eyes, I have the Gen Nude palette, which I love.

Are you like us and binge-watch shows on Netflix?

I’m binge-watching the second series of Making a Murderer. It’s so good. I just watched this HBO documentary called Mummy Dead and Dearest, and it’s about this girl named Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Basically, she and her boyfriend kill the mum because she had Munchausen’s syndrome by proxy, which is when you make the child believe they are sick all the time and purposely induce illnesses by giving them medicine that gives them side effects.

And, on that note, we’re off to chill in front of Netflix to while away the time until that Complexion Rescue Stick launches. In the meantime, shop Hailey’s favourite BareMinerals palette below.
