Every year, the amfAR Gala takes place in Milan to raise funding and awareness for AIDS prevention, research, and treatment (that's a good cause if we've ever heard one). It's also perfectly timed, in that it takes place in the midst of Milan Fashion Week. This means all the stars and celebs can take a break from attending designer shows to attend a red carpet of their own.
As you can imagine, there were many amazing fashion and beauty moments, but our favorite goes to Hailey Baldwin. The supermodel wore a sumptuous green glittery dress with a black cat eye. That doesn't sound far from the red carpet real, right? Wait until you hear about her hair.
She wore a thick black headband in front of a subtle 1960s-inspired bouffant. If you're wondering how on earth someone pulled off this look in the year 2017, just keep scrolling to see her whole look.
Baldwin's hairstylist, Jennifer Yepez, posted this photo on Instagram, captioning it "Brigitte Bardot vibes yesterday for Amfar in Milano." If the iconic French beauty was their inspiration, then in our humble opinion, they absolutely hit the nail on the head.
When we see this stunning look, we immediately think of Bardot in any one of her famous films. Especially when this hairstyle is paired with a smoky black, flicked-out liner since that's literally the exact look that Bardot was known for.
Yepez kept this hairstyle feeling modern and fresh by making sure to keep Baldwin's hair slightly volumized without going over the top. We can tell it's teased at the root but only a bit. Building up the volume too high would have made this super-chic style appear dated. After all, the goal isn't to look vintage, it's to look vintage-inspired.
We also love the rich, smoked-out liner, which was all thanks to Baldwin's makeup artist Morgane Martini, who happens to be French, just like the beauty icon who Baldwin invoked. To get a similar heavily rimmed eye, try using a kajal liner, which will deposit more pigment than a normal liner. We like Yves Saint Laurent Couture Kajal 3-in-1 Khol Liner ($35). It has a rich and blendable texture to get that lovely smoky effect, but it won't smudge after it sets because of its 12-hour long-wear formula.
