New season, new ’do? Hair guru Zachary Morad sat down with Makeup.com to discuss his thoughts on the hairstyle that is quietly stealing the lob’s thunder: the shag. We’ve seen Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift with shorter, choppier cuts, and according to Morad, their shaggy yet blunt layers deliver texture and edginess that are super refreshing. [Makeup.com]
What do men really notice on a first date? With so many options for women (heels, no heels; makeup, no makeup; skirt, pants, dresses; etc.), we can’t help but stress about looking our best. Which makes us wonder—what really matters to someone of the opposite sex? Huffington Post broke it down for us, and it turns out what guys think about your first date look is pretty interesting. Of the men interviewed, 45% prefer your hair down, 67% care if you have nice nails, and only 21% want you to wear lipstick—57% don’t care what is on your lips at all. Now that we have this intel, maybe we can do a little less? [Huffington Post]
Contouring incorrectly, while unfortunate, can easily be fixed. Committing a makeup sin that messes with your number one beauty asset—your skin—is a whole other story. SheFinds broke down the 10 makeup mistakes that are ruining your skin, and you’re going to want to take notes. Most importantly, relying on BB or CC creams for sun protection is not acceptable. You need to use a separate sunscreen to fully protect! Other offenders include not cleansing your face properly, not cleaning your makeup brushes often enough, and not giving your skin a break from makeup. Review the whole list, and make sure your best asset is protected. [SheFinds]
Drying your hair in the morning is everyone’s least favorite thing (behind making the bed). Enter Color Wow’s Speed-Dry Blow-Dry Spray ($15). Originally created to cut down on heat applied to color-treated hair (so highlights could last longer), this miracle product was tested on untouched strands as well, and the claim sticks—it’s a time-saving game changer. After your shower, towel-dry your hair as usual. Lift and tousle your roots while spraying the product all over. (You can even apply other products on top of that.) Dry like normal, and three minutes later, all done. Really! [PureWow]
