Christine Hahn for Glow Recipe
I'm a bit biased when it comes to online K-beauty destination Glow Recipe. After all, co-founders Christine Chang and Sarah Lee prescribed me a routine that made my skin insanely hydrated within minutes, so I constantly sing the praises of its nourishing (not to mention beautifully packaged) products. But turns out I'm in good company: The brand's Watermelon Sleeping Mask has a 5000-person waiting list. Watermelon is a bit of a newcomer to the skincare scene, which was perhaps the main source of the allure, along with the fact that it's touted as a soothing, restoring natural ingredient. Couple that with the millennial pink packaging, and you've got a product worthy of fierce buzz 10 times over.
So it comes as no surprise that the brand's latest Watermelon Glow Jelly Mask created a bit of an internet frenzy when the news dropped this week. Images of women wearing a glossy two-piece mask were scattered across Glow Recipe's Instagram page, which was instantly met with thousands of likes and comments of sheer enticement. "I just want to eat it," wrote one user, which we completely understand, considering the "sheet" itself is a cotton-free blend of watermelon extract and natto gum, meaning you're putting straight-up real watermelon in jelly form on your skin (please don't nibble on it, though). It's so natural, the pink tint doesn't come from synthetic dyes—just fresh melon goodness.
What we also love about the mask is the way it's packaged—a triangular "watermelon slice" tray holds the mask, which comes in both a top and bottom piece for a more bespoke fit to your face, as well as some excess serum you can use to rub on your neck, décolletage, hands—wherever. Eager to benefit from the soothing melon magic, I applied the sheet to my face, popped on some Bravo, and sat back while the cooling, delicious-smelling mask put me into a state of euphoria. The jelly consistency made it adhere to my skin much better than a typical cotton sheet, and after about 15 minutes of wear, my skin had a noticeable dewy suppleness to it. I put my favorite Renée Rouleau moisturizer on top to seal in the hydration and then slept peacefully knowing I'd just given my skin a huge treat.
The mask is officially available for sale on glowrecipe.com and at Sephora June 1 (we recommend getting on the email list just in case). In the meantime, shop some of our other favorite Glow Recipe offerings below.
