Get The Look: Hayden Panettiere

Updated 09/23/16

“When it’s 100 degrees outside you really have to think about what makeup you use,” says makeup artist Amy Oresman. Her stay-put solution for Panettiere is a 50/50 mix of Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Primer ($13) and Shine Control Foundation ($13), pressed into the actress’ skin with her fingers.

“Instead of setting the face with powder and bronzer I like to contour with a loose powder a few shades darker than the skin,” says Oresman. She applied Neutrogena’s Mineral Sheers Loose Powder Foundation ($13) with M.A.C.’s 138 Tapered Fan Brush ($53) along the actress’ hairline, nose, jawline, and under her cheekbones. Then, instead of blush, she dusted Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Custom Glow Bronzer ($13) onto the apples of Panettiere’s cheeks.

For Panettiere’s pout, Oresman used Chanel’s Precision Lip Definer ($29) in Peche to line and fill in the actress’ lips, then topped with a coat of Neutrogena’s Moisture Smooth Color Stick ($9) in Sweet Watermelon. She even dabbed the color onto the apples of Panettiere’s cheeks.

Oresman says people have trouble with liquid eyeliners because of the brush they come with: “They’re awful!” Her solution? “M.A.C.’s Pointed Liner Brush ($19) fits into any tube and creates a smooth line.” She drew a single, upturned line of Sephora + Pantone Universe’s limited-edition Graphic Lift Eyeliner onto the actress’ lids. The formula is sold out online, but try Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Liner ($23) in 4 Diamond Lagoon Green for a near-identical look.

“Hayden likes to have fun with makeup, but she still wants to look like herself,” says Oresman. So she applied two coats of Neutrogena’s Healthy Volume Mascara ($8), and while the actress’ lashes were still wet, applied individual lashes from M.A.C.’s 30 Lash ($16) with Duo’s black Eyelash Adhesive ($8) into the outside half of the actress’ top lashes. Oresman’s trick for a natural look? “Curl your lashes after you apply them to pinch the lashes and mascara together.”

For the finishing touch Oresman used Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz Mechanical Brow Pencil ($21) in Medium Ash on Panettiere’s brows and set them with the brand’s clear Brow Gel ($22).

Panettiere let the desert heat air-dry her locks, so for smoothness, hairstylist Gregory Russell made a side part and applied light heat to her dry roots before reaching for a one-inch curling iron. He wrapped her locks in different directions and sprayed Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray ($24) as it cooled.

Once curled, Russell smoothed a side section of Panettiere’s locks against her head and secured with a tight elastic. He sprayed Serge Normant’s Meta Revive Dry Shampoo ($25) through the actress’ locks for extra texture, then finished the look with the brand’s Meta Luxe Hairspray ($25) to keep her hair in place all night.
