When Taryn Multack (aka Miss Ladyfinger) stopped by the Byrdie studios, armed with nail inspiration from the spring runways, we knew we were in for a treat. Stripes, textures, psychedelic prints… in the end, we went with a clean, sporty manicure, inspired by Topshop Unique’s S/S 15 collection. The crisp lines and fresh colors suit nail-minimalists and enthusiasts alike. Plus, it’s the perfect look for pretending spring came early.

Apply a base coat, followed by two coats of an opaque white polish, like Lancôme’s Vernis in Love Nail Polish ($16) in Cristal Quartz.
Using a blue nail striper (Sally Hansen’s I Heart Nail Art Striper ($3) comes in 10 different colors and is super easy to use), create an inverted V at the base of each nail. Start at your cuticles, and draw the brush up, so that the two lines meet at a point in the middle.
Draw a horizontal line across the midline of each nail. This line will land slightly above the peak of the two lines you just drew. Then, fill in the outlined area with your blue striper.
Paint the top half of your nails (the portion above the blue shape) red. Use a true, bright red polish, like Estée Lauder’s Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($21) in Empowered.
To finish, and to cover any accidental red-blue overlap, draw a black line across your nail right where the two polish colors meet. If you don’t have a striper, you can use a small paintbrush or old eyeliner brush dipped in the black nail polish for this step, too.
Top it all off with a layer of your favorite high-shine top coat, and your nails are ready for spring.
