Your perfume isn’t just how you smell—it’s how you feel when you get dressed in the morning, for a night out, for a boardroom meeting. It's just as much of an accessory to how you present yourself to the world as your clothing (and let's not forget its close ties to memory and emotion). With that in mind, we’ve launched Fragrance Wardrobe, a scent series in collaboration with The Fragrance Foundation that highlights the rotating perfume “wardrobes” of our favorite tastemakers through key points in their life. Get to know them better via the scents they choose to wear.
If anyone could teach a course on living an aesthetically inspiring lifestyle, it would be Marianna Hewitt. The TV-host-turned-lifestyle-blogger has blessed us with her refined, neutral-toned take on beauty and style since the very first inception of her blog, Life With Me, and in 2018, with the launch of her minimalist skincare brand, Summer Fridays. The line, which now includes several face masks, a vitamin C serum, and gentle new Super Amino Acid Cleanser, is beautifully designed (no surprise) and created with the modern jet-setting, multi-tasking, results-driven woman in mind—much like Hewitt herself.
Along with skincare, Hewitt also considers herself quite the fragrance obsessive. "It is a beauty product I cannot live without," she tells us. "The last step I do before I walk out the door is grab a perfume and spray it all over—maybe too much! I have a tray next to my door with some of my favorites." We caught up with the beauty-brand founder and lifestyle influencer and asked her about her Fragrance Wardrobe, from the scent she discovered from a fellow influencer to the perfume she swears "goes with everything." Consider us influenced.
The fragrance you remember most as a child: "I am very tied to scent. It is something I have such emotional memories with. I grew up between Ohio and Germany. In our home in Germany, we had a hill in the backyard that was full of lavender. My mom would do her laundry and ironing with the doors open and would put little sprigs of lavender in all of her drawers. If I smell real fresh lavender, it instantly brings me back to those moments."
The first fragrance you bought for your fragrance wardrobe:
"As a kid, I was a sucker for a celebrity fragrance—Paris Hilton and Britney Spears were my favorites. I would display their bottles with pride in my bedroom."
The fragrance you wore when you fell in love:
"I can't remember the exact fragrance, but one that makes me think of love is Maison Margiela Replica By The Fireplace. I love the unisex fragrances that Margiela does. Each of them feel like a moment in time and By The Fireplace smells so warm, romantic and masculine."
The fragrance in your carry-on:
"Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad is one I found on a Revolve trip to the Hamptons. Julie [Sincerely Jules] was wearing it and I had to ask her what perfume she had on. I instantly got online and ordered it and fell in love. Every time I wear this, people stop to ask me what I am wearing. I love that it has refillable small bottles that you can fill up and take on the go. I prefer spray travel perfumes over rollerballs, so this one is great for my lifestyle.
Your "goes with everything" fragrance:
"KAYALI Vanilla is by Mona and Huda Kattan. Mona is the fragrance girl—have you seen her perfume closet?! I knew when they launched KAYALI that I would love the scents. They sent me all of them to try and Vanilla became a staple for me. It’s vanilla without being overly sweet or girly—vanilla in the most elevated way. It's one of those perfumes that just goes for any occasion, day or night, no matter the season."
Your power-suit fragrance:
"Armani Si Passione makes me feel so strong, bold and feminine. I was in Paris with Armani Beauty when they debuted this fragrance and the scent will always remind me of that trip. I was surrounded by inspiring women who all embody this perfume."
Your slinky slip dress fragrance:
"Pirette Fragrance Oilsmells like vacation. It's warm, sweet, and intense. You only need to roll on a tiny bit of it to be surrounded with the smells of warm skin. It’s perfect for dresses because the fragrance is an oil; I roll a little on my wrists and you can smell it all day without having to spray it on your clothes."
