This Is What Happened When Drew Barrymore Did My Makeup

Flower Beauty products

Flower Beauty

Flower Beauty is the cosmetics line founded by actress, producer, director, and real-life "Charlie's Angel" Drew Barrymore. Her line has recently launched in the UK, and we couldn't be any more excited. Although the super-affordable Flower Beauty has been established in the U.S. for years, it's never made its way over to this side of the pond—until now. Barrymore came to London yesterday to launch the line in Superdrug, and as it also happened to be the Byrdie Christmas party last night, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and ask her to help me out. Yes, that's right—Drew Barrymore did my Christmas party makeup for me.

Concealer

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Concealer (£10): I'm forever battling with dark circles, so I really need a concealer that will pack a pigment punch. Barrymore assured me she has my back and let me know that her trouble area is also dark under-eye circles. She applied it under my eyes in a deep V-shape before blending with her finger. It's a creamy texture that illuminates the skin while hiding any signs of tiredness.

Highlight

Flower Beauty Shimmer & Strobe Highlighting Palette (£14): Next up, highlighter. Since it's Christmas, we decided to go big on the glow. She used the palette across my cheekbones, forehead, brow bone, nose, and Cupid's bow. This palette has three different shimmer options, or you can combine all of them for that extra glow.

Glow Drops

Flower Beauty's Supernova Celestial Skin Elixir Primer (£17): Barrymore says this primer has become a cult buy from the brand. The purple-hued primer is packed with shimmer pigments, and Barrymore says it sells out frequently: "Even though they look super glittery, they just leave your skin with a super-hydrated sheen," she says. "Mix them with foundation or apply them on their own." It also hydrates the skin leaving it smooth. Notable ingredients include Jojoba seed oil that helps restore the skin, Camellia seed oil that is rich in antioxidants, and soothing Kukiu nut oil.

Foundation

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation (£13): Next, for foundation, Barrymore used her hands to mix together the primer drops and Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation. "I learned from the great Pat McGrath (when I was doing CoverGirl with her) that even though I've highlighted and concealed, I'm just going to go in with this beautiful dew and press it into the skin," she says." The foundation felt light and breathable, all while leaving me with an even skin tone.

Powder

Light Illusion Perfecting Powder: To set everything in place, Barrymore swept translucent powder under my eyes and through my T-zone. "We love the glow, but no woman wants to be high-lit in the oily T-zone," she says. The powder is no longer available at Superdrug, but is available on the brand's website.

Mascara

Warrior Princess Mascara (£11): Next up came mascara. Disclaimer: I already had mascara on and usually hate applying more mascara on top, however, Barrymore insisted on "getting in on [those] lashes," and you can't really argue with her. She applied two more coats on top of my own, and I can vouch for the fact that it really did give my lashes a full-on falsies effect. The Royal Black color gave my lashes a defined look with full coverage. This mascara is also gluten-free and vegan.

Lipstick

Flower Beauty Miracle Matte Liquid Lipstick (£9): Instead of opting for a classic red Christmas lip, Barrymore combined two shades to create an ombré lip "like they do in South Korea." She first applied Flower Beauty Miracle Matte Liquid Lipstick in Dark and Stormy (£8)—a soft brown that although matte, feels light and comfortable on the lips. Then she went in with Flower Beauty Mix N' Matte Lipstick Duo in Violet Vixen (£10) and applied it to the center of my lips (this is the exact shade she had on—NBD).

Lipgloss

Mix N' Matte Lipstick Duo (£10): To finish the ombré lip, Barrymore used the gloss end of Mix N' Matte Lipstick Duo to highlight the center of my lips to create a kissable effect. It provides full coverage with a matte lipstick and a matching gloss so you can choose which look you're going for.

Bronzer

Flower Beauty Lift & Sculpt Contour Palette (£13): For bronzer, Barrymore swept the palette across my cheekbones and décolletage with a full, fluffy brush. It's perfect for defining the face, and the three colors in the palette blend seamlessly together.

Extra Highlighter

And, just because it's Christmas, she went in again with yet more highlighter to enhance the lip and Cupid's bow.

Et violà—my final Christmas party makeup look, as created by Drew Barrymore. Let me tell you that not once did I touch-up my makeup through the night, and even the lipstick stayed fully intact through multiple cheese boards and wine. Impressive, eh?
