Although an easygoing Italian summer getaway may not be on the docket for the next few months, we can at least pretend we’re in the midst of a steamy Amalfi romance through our beauty and fashion choices. The Italian bob has been trending for its laissez-faire vibe and flippy nature—but the cut tends to work best for people with naturally wavy hair. If you want wear the style but have straight or curly hair, let Florence Pugh be your inspo: she just wore an Italian bob with a deep side part.
On March 22, Pugh sat down with Good Morning America in Times Square to promote her new film A Good Person, which follows Pugh as Allison, a woman battling addiction. While recounting what it was like working with both Morgan Freeman and Molly Shannon on the film, Pugh wore a cutout Alturazza dress with a tie dye print, midi length, and long sleeves. She paired the dress with gold jewelry, a leather jacket, and combat boots.

Celebrity hairstylist Peter Lux is the mastermind behind Pugh’s recent sculptural hairstyles, but for her GMA appearance, he styled her hair into a chic Italian bob, which was the ideal accent for her feminine-meets-masculine ensamble. Her bob was sleek at the top and accentuated her deep side part and dark roots. Lux slicked down the shallow side of her part and tucked it behind her ear before adding in fluffy, lived-in curls for a relaxed, face-hugging Italian-meets-Hollywood style.
“[The Italian bob’s] difference lies in that it grazes the neck with a chunky line but has internal texture throughout,” Tom Connell, Davines Hair Art Director, previously told Byrdie. “This means that when the hair is cut with no particular parting, it can be flipped and moved around from one side to the other, looking slightly different each time.”

Waves add that effortless, seaside feel that's trademark to the Italian bob, but Pugh proves that you can put your own spin on the style while keeping all the volume. Simply ask your hairstylist to create inward bends in your bob, keeping in mind the part that works with your hair texture and face shape the most.
