Night creams—do you really need one? The answer is yes. It's so beneficial to have a nighttime skincare routine to address skin concerns while you sleep. Night creams, as opposed to day creams, typically contain heavier moisturizers and no SPF. And while everyone has different skin types and needs, it's safe to say we probably all can use a little more hydration and firmness.

Ahead, I share my experience using First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Night Cream.

About The Brand: First Aid Beauty focuses on creating clean products suitable for sensitive skin. It's mostly known for its hand, body, and face moisturizers that restore moisture and plump the skin.

About My Skin: Sign me up for night cream

Anti-aging treatments that nourish my skin overnight are always at the top of my list when shopping for skincare. I have combination, sensitive skin with type 1 rosacea. I tend to have a longer skincare routine at night than I do in the daytime, and I prefer not to use products that feel too heavy on my skin. I use chemical exfoliants at night, so I tend to gravitate toward soothing creams. Night creams I’ve used regularly are Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore, Biologique Recherche Placenta cream, and Alastin Restorative Skin Complex.

How to Apply: Scoop and massage

You’ll want this cream to be the last step in your PM skincare routine—after cleansing, toning, and applying serums. It doesn’t come with any kind of scooper, so you will need to find one and use that to get it out of the jar, or use a cotton swab. I don’t like to put my fingers directly into the jar as it's not 100 percent sanitary. Scoop the cream out onto your hands and warm it up a bit before pressing it and massaging it into the skin.

The Results: Simple and effective

A few things that stood out to me about this cream were there wasn’t any fragrance—a plus for me—and the texture of the cream feels like velvet. This felt particularly soothing after using my usual chemical exfoliants.

Testing Insight

I really liked the way this cream felt on my skin, and it was easily absorbed without feeling too rich.

I really liked the way this cream felt on my skin, and it was easily absorbed without feeling too rich.

While it’s meant to target drier skin types than mine, I can’t speak to how nourishing it would be on someone with very dry skin. I do like for my skin to look dewy upon waking and did not notice this product gave me plumper-looking skin. My skin also felt hydrated and the texture was definitely more supple. I also liked how my skin didn’t react at all to the formula, which proves in my case that it truly is suitable for sensitive skin.

The Value: On point

For a 1.7 fl. ounce cream that you’ll only need to use at night, I find this cream to be pretty affordable at $40. Most firming night creams come at a higher price. This is a product to consider buying the next time you’re shopping for a new overnight moisturizing and firming treatment.

Competition: You've got options

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream ($45): Think of this moisturizer as your ticket to instant beauty sleep. Plant-derived stem cells, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, and retinol all work together to help rejuvenate skin while you snooze.

Naturium Intense Overnight Sleeping Cream ($25): Advanced epidermal lipids and nutrient-rich ingredients in this cream help to treat skin overnight. After continued use, you’ll notice visibly hydrated and brighter skin.

Final Verdict

For a basic, fragrance-free, and easy-to-use firming night cream, the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Night Cream is worth testing if you’re wanting to try something new. The fact that it’s fragrance-free, absorbs beautifully on the skin, and is under $40 makes it a star product in my book.
