No matter how much we prepare for what we call "Coachella season," we're never bored or underwhelmed with the looks we see once the music starts playing and the festival grounds start filling up. Sure, we do our best to predict trends and gather inspiration, but there's nothing like actually seeing the varied and numerous final looks for ourselves.
Because let's be honest: Even though the festival only runs two weekends out of the whole year, its effects last much longer than that. Coachella is the place to debut original beauty looks and trend-spot new ones. The best group of people to look to for this? Celebrities, of course. We're only one weekend in, and already celebs like Alessandra Ambrosio, Kylie Jenner, Olivia Culpo, and more have flocked to Indio. Here are our 17 favorite beauty looks from weekend one. We can't wait to see what next weekend has in store.
Shay Mitchell appeared at the Revolve Party at Coachella wearing thick, smoky eyeliner, fresh skin, and a barely-there braid that split her hair down the middle. Her makeup artist, Patrick Ta, posted this to his Instagram and captioned it what we were all thinking: "Coachella Brows On Fleek."
In true Coachella fashion, Victoria Justice proves there's no limit to glitter makeup, whether you apply it on your eyelids, your temple, or your arm. We like how she kept a silvery-blue theme throughout, matching her eye shadow to her braid and her accessories.
Kylie Jenner posted no less than five different pictures of her new neon-pink hair to Instagram, captioning one of them with the best Mean Girls reference, "I'm not a regular mom I'm a cool mom." While the pink hair is the MVP of this Coachella look, we also couldn't help noticing her sandy-brown eye shadow and rosy-brown lip to match.
Surprise! Kylie Jenner makes the list again for another hair color change—this time to silvery denim blue. We're hoping she keeps this color around for the long run. Whether it's her actual hair color or a wig, we don't know, but we're assuming it's the latter. It looks like she's back to her old hair color–switching ways, at least for now.
Olivia Culpo's Western-inspired outfit was complemented by what we think has officially become her signature look—soft and diffused eye shadow with a neutral-toned lip color. As always, she kept her brows bold and her hair sleek. If it's not broke, don't fix it, right?
Singer-songwriter Kiana Ledé's makeup was super dewy, including her shiny lip color, which to us looks a lot like one of our favorite lipsticks of all time, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita ($20). What we like most about her look, though, has to be her breezy, shiny curls.
Actress Britt Robertson attended the Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum Launch at the Pioneertown Motel over the first weekend of Coachella. Celeb makeup artist Tobi Henney used Dior makeup products to create the whole look, including the Dior 5 Couleurs Cool Down Palette.
Victoria's Secret model Romee Strijd attended the first weekend of Coachella while wearing her blonde hair in tight pigtail braids. As for makeup, she wore a wash of bright desert orange pigment across her eyelids.
Strijd's fellow Victoria's Secret Angel Lais Ribeiro went for a Coachella classic: space buns. Hers were braided through with what look to be red extensions before being wrapped around the base and secured. It makes for a more detailed, edgy final look. We approve.
Joan Smalls attended a Revolve event wearing the thickest, coolest, most vibrant set of braids we ever did see. We like how they start off with what looks to be her natural chocolate-brown shade, only turning dark red about a third of the way down the lengths.
Emily Ratajkowski and Kendall Jenner attended the same event, both sporting pared-back beauty looks. We sense a theme here: If current celeb styles are any indication, then gone are the days of wild and outlandish music festival beauty looks. Instead, we're predicting that bronzed and glowy looks (the kind that make you dream of summer) will reign supreme.
Rihanna went for a vintage vibe for her first weekend at Coachella. She matched her volumized, flipped hair with old-school powder-blue eye shadow, and somehow it works. And it works well. (Is there anything that Rihanna can't pull off? The answer is no.)
Hailey Baldwin's retro hairstyle was created using exclusively Amika products. First, celebrity stylist Florido applied the brand's Plus Size Perk Body Mousse ($25) on Baldwin's damp hair. He blew it dry, and then took a flat iron and made small twists and turns to create imperfect waves. After tying her hair up (spot the scrunchie) and adding pearl-embellished bobby pins up the back, he finished the look with a spritz of Amika Fluxus Touchable Hairspray ($25).
Alessandra Ambrosio did music festival beauty well by adding a few streaks of pastel purple throughout her wavy hair. To replicate her look without the commitment of a permanent hair dye, try using hair chalk like Brite Purple Liquid Hair Chalk ($12), which you can wash out.
The eldest Kardashian sister also seems to be joining in on the music festival fun. On Saturday, she posted this picture, tagging the location with "Coachella Valley." Her look is the definition of monochromatic, as the same terra-cotta–colored makeup is applied to her eyelids, cheeks, and lips. The resulting finish is low-key and insanely glowy (though we're thinking the perfect golden hour desert sunlight has something to do with that).
Jasmine Tookes followed the fail-safe Western theme for Coachella's inaugural 2018 weekend. Her eyes and lips seem to be defined with the exact same shade of rosy-brown. We'll be replicating her look with Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Mini Set ($24), which is small enough to stash in your bag while you're on the go (i.e. dancing around the fields of a music festival).
How could we possibly list the best beauty looks of Coachella without mentioning Beyoncé, who happens to be headlining the festival? Her kohl-rimmed eyes and super-glittery shadow left us awestruck. As did her curls, her dance moves, her performance, and basically everything else about her.
