We're not shy about our obsession with Fenty's makeup collection. (If you don't believe us, just check out our complete review of the Fenty products.) The brand has amassed a cult following—and for a good reason. Rihanna's set a standard for high-quality products that deliver on both their quality and their message. While her 50 shades of foundation are the brand's most notable feature, her honeycomb shaped highlighters have also become a fan favorite.
So when a women found a dupe of the Freestyle Killawatt Highlighter in Trophy Wife ($36) for just a fraction of Fenty's price, our interest was piqued. Trophy Wife's iridescent standard is hard to replicate. The Fenty highlighter has a brilliant gold pigment that reflects light the color of a sunbeam. It's a vibrant yellow-gold that is smooth, silky, and stunning. Upon application, it seamlessly blends into the skin for an airbrushed shine. The solo highlighter (many Fenty highlighters come with two shades per compact) is a cream and powder hybrid product that creates a unique texture and application.
Thus, we were surprised to hear that a makeup artist, known on Instagram as @boujiebarb, claims to have found the perfect dupe for Trophy Wife in her local Dollar Tree's beauty section for just $1, according to Allure. We're all for a good drugstore find and the picture of @boujiebarb sporting her Dollar Tree discovery was all the proof we needed. Consider us sold—this dupe seems to be the real deal.
In her post, the MUA is pictured wearing an electric green shimmer across the high points of her face and swiped across her eyelids. With such intense sparkle, the glow is easily mistaken Rihanna's standout Trophy Wife gold highlighter. It has the same sheen, color, and reflective glitter as the Fenty product. But, according to @boujiebarb, it's actually a loose powder pigment from a totally budget-friendly makeup line called L.A. Colors. The brand is hallmark in the Dollar Tree beauty aisle.
L.A. Colors Shimmering Loose Eyeshadow With Brush in Sunshine is currently unavailable online. (But between you and me, peruse eBay and you might find one or two.) While the Sunshine shade is not available for purchase online, you can scoop up three alternative shades: Lollipop, Honey Suckle, and Grape Jelly.
To style, simply do as @boujiebarbie does and swipe across the high points of your face, including the cheekbones, décolletage, inner corners of the eyes, nose, and Cupid's bow with a highlighter brush. If the Instagram photos are any indication, L.A. Colors Shimmering Loose Eyeshadow will provide a similar, almost 3D glistening effect similar to that of Rihanna's high-end highlighter.
