Get the Look: Rusty-Red Eye Shadow and Peachy Lips

Model and DJ Eve Smith has this icy, ethereal quality about her. For our images, I wanted to play with her light features by pairing them with dewy skin and nude juicy lips, while creating a stark contrast with her eyes. The rusty-red eye shadow makes her ice-blue eyes pop and further enhances her dollish features. Here’s how to get the look!

Prep & Prime:

Moisture the face and neck with a light moisturizer, like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer ($19). Spread primer evenly across the face using a sponge. I used an opalescent primer, like Laura Mercier Foundation Primer ($34) in Radiance to create an allover dewy finish and a lit from within glow.

Apply Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation ($62) using a Beauty Blender and a light tapping (stippling) motion. Conceal under-eyes and any inconsistencies in the skin with Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer Makeup ($48).

Highlight & Contour:

Accentuate highlights (cheekbones, brow bone, ridge of the nose, and cupids bow) with Koh Gen Do Makeup Color Base ($48) in Pearl White and a Beauty Blender. This product creates a subtle highlight with low to no shimmer. Reinforce your highlights with Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand ($32). Use an ashy cream color with a blending brush to subtly contour the cheekbones and temples.

The brows are not the main focus of this look, so apply a powder brow color, like Senna Powder Brow Color ($18) in a shade lighter than your natural brow with an angle brush. Lock the shape in with a clear brow gel, like Senna Brow Fix X ($18).

Prime the lids with a neutral color like MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($21) in Painterly. Sweep a red eye shadow, like Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow ($21) in Copper Red, across the entire lid, blending the edges into the crease and corners. It’s OK to do a few coats of this color, as the next step will tone it down. Apply a light layer of brown eye shadow with a hint of shimmer on top of your red lid. Blend the brown into the crease and corners. Use a matte brown eyeliner pencil, like Mac’s Eye Pencil  ($16) in Coffee, to line the upper lid. Smudge the eyeliner color into the upper and lower lash lines. Finish the eyes with a few coats of my favorite drugstore mascara (my favorite mascara of all time, actually): L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara ($8)

Moisturize the lips and add a hint of shine with Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm ($4) in Peach Kiss (another drugstore favorite)

Tap and blend a small amount of rosy cream blush, like Bare Minerals Blush ($20) in Beauty, on the apples of the cheeks to add a bit of color and warmth.

Finish the look by setting the face with translucent powder, like Laura Mercier’s Loose Setting Powder ($37).
