When it comes to skincare recommendations, estheticians are some of the best people to go to for advice. They're working day in, day out with clients who have a range of different skin concerns and they spend years trying and testing different ingredients housed inside varying lotions and potions. But given the vast collection of products in their arsenal, what would they do if they had to choose only one? That's the (extremely difficult) question I posed to five top estheticians, who each came through with their top pick and some pretty convincing reasoning behind each one.
Keep scrolling to find out the five skincare products you should probably add to your shopping list today.
Who: Nichola Joss's clients are world famous faces like Kate Moss, Margot Robbie and Meghan Markle, so whatever she recommends we're listening.
Her pick: "I've used this balm since I started my career. I use it in salon and in prescription recommendations for clients to use at home. It's a game-changer for me for massage, sensorial experience, calmness, hydration and nourishment. It's the one thing I always travel with, too."
Who: Shani Darden, expert esthetician and founder of Shani Darden Skin Care, counts Chrissy Teigen, Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley amongst her A-list clientele.
Her pick: "I cannot live without my Retinol Reform and use it nightly. Retinol is one of the best ingredients for anti-aging, because it decreases fine lines, wrinkles and boosts collagen. It also helps with pigmentation and smooths the texture of your skin."
Who: New York-based Georgia Louise is a celebrity esthetician who has an impressive roster of A-list clients including Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett.
Her pick: "I have been using this product since I was 21 and couldn’t live without it, it helped with my breakouts way back then and now helps my fine lines and lightens up all my pigmentation from pregnancy."
Her pick: "Six years ago I was dealing with painful cystic acne all over my forehead. I had tried everything and at that time, active ingredients weren’t very common in skincare outside of pharmaceutical products. Despite all of the free products I received from my job as an esthetician, I decided to purchase Good Genes and, within a few weeks, my skin changed completely. Now I cannot go without my Good Genes!”
Who: Renée Rouleau is young Hollywood's go-to esthetician and counts Demi Lovato, Emmy Rossum, and Camila Mendes among her clients.
Her pick: "My Anti Bump Solution works amazingly well to fight breakouts without drying out the skin. It is my go-to to resolve any hormonal breakouts that pop up on my chin and jawline area. I just apply a small drop to clean skin morning or night when I’m breaking out and then continue on with my normal routine. I designed it so that it would be powerful and fast-acting; it cuts healing time in half for newly formed blemishes and quickly reduces visible inflammation. I tell all my clients to refrain from picking at cysts and painful breakouts and try my Anti Bump Solution instead!"
Who: Tarryn Warren was based at celebrity detox retreat Viva Mayr for years before returning to London. She's also Tatler magazine's go-to esthetician for milia removal and deep cleaning.
Her pick: "For me, it’s always been Niod Copper Amino Isolate Serum. I love it and it seems to suit all skin types. It helps collagen production, minimizes breakouts, hydrates, evens texture and improves the appearance of dark circles. It causes no photosensitivity, so it's ideal to use in place of retinol during the summer. I use it with microneedling in the clinic and at home. It's the closest thing to the fountain of youth I've found."
