We put Epicuren Discovery After Bath Body Moisturizer to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

With all the attention paid to our faces, we—or okay, I—sometimes forget how important it is to care for the rest of my body. Outside of sunscreen, a good moisturizer is one of my favorite ways to hydrate and pamper my skin. To soothe my dry skin, I decided to try Epicuren's Discovery After Bath Moisturizer, a body cream made with natural emollients. It was hard to choose which scent to try, so I started using the unscented version (but I didn’t pass up the opportunity to see what the fragrances had to offer).

I replaced my usual moisturizer with the Epicuren Discovery After Bath Moisturizer and tried it out over several days to see if it’s worth its high cost.

About the brand: Epicuren Discovery creates natural skincare products with a focus on innovative ingredients and methods.

About My Skin: Parched

My skin is drier than usual thanks to less humidity in the air. As the weather warms up and I start wearing shorts again, the health (and look) of my skin is on my mind.

Recently, I’ve been using Necessaire The Body Lotion, and occasionally the much thicker Just Beauty Body Love CBD Butter. Since body lotion covers such a large portion of my skin, the quality of ingredients is important to me. I look for products that leave out anything that may potentially irritate or damage my skin.

The Feel: Silky

Epicuren After Bath Moisturizer has the lightness of a lotion with the hydration of a balm. It’s silky smooth when you're rubbing it in and leaves an emollient layer on the skin. Basically, it made my skin feel full of moisture, super soft and healthy-looking. However, if I applied too much, it did make my skin feel a little sticky—otherwise, it takes just a minute or two before I’m comfortable pulling on pants or crawling into bed.

Scents: Five to choose from

The unscented version has no added fragrance, but the ingredients naturally have a subtle scent that reminds me of fresh greenery. If you’re sensitive to smells, I wouldn’t worry—I can only detect a hint of fragrance when I bring the moisturizer right up to my nose.

Those who are looking for a delicious smelling moisturizer will be pleased—there are five fragrances to choose from, French Lavender, Kukui Coconut, Moroccan Rosemary, Tahitian Vanilla, and Orange Blossom. My personal favorites are the Orange Blossom and Tahitian Vanilla—the latter of which made me audibly gasp in delight at first smell.

The only one I was disappointed in was the Kukui Coconut, mostly because I had set out thinking it would be my favorite only to find it wasn’t the coconut fragrance I know and love (to be fair, it still smells good).

The Results: Hydrated skin

At first use, the Epicuren Moisturizer transformed my dry skin into a healthier, more hydrated version of itself, and hours later the benefits are still apparent. It's worth noting that I no longer have a white cast of dry skin that can sometimes crop up when I forget to apply moisturizer.

Testing Insight

With continued use, I’ve noticed that my skin looks more moisturized than ever.

As the name implies, the best time to apply moisturizer is right out of the bath or shower while skin is still damp. But don’t feel like that’s the only time you can. I’ve applied this moisturizer several different times and have noticed it hydrates my skin nicely whether I’ve just showered or not.

The Value: An indulgence

This moisturizer definitely lands on the high end. The largest bottle is 16 ounces and sells for $61—way more than your typical drugstore moisturizers which come in the same size. While the formula is made of quality ingredients, it’s still a steep price for a moisturizer. While I loved how it made my skin feel, in normal circumstances I probably wouldn’t spend $60+ on the bottle.

There are several sizes if you want to test it out without committing (and paying for) the large bottle. A 2-ounce bottle is available for $13, or you can pick up an 8-ounce bottle for $36.

Competition: Other hydrating options

Necessaire The Body Lotion ($25): The Necessaire moisturizer has several vitamins and is also formulated to be good for skin. I find it to be no less moisturizing than the Epicuren, however, it does have a thicker feel and is a little less easy to spread (it still spreads smoothly, but the Epicuren moisturizer glides so silky against the skin it’s hard to compete with). I find it to be a good alternative if you want to pay a slightly cheaper price.

Alba Very Emollient Body Lotion ($15): This lotion is silky, hypoallergenic, and filled with hydrating plant oils just like Epicuren’s, but you can get double the product for around $15. It’s available unscented, but if you’re looking for a tropical flair you can pick it up in a coconut scent, too.

Final Verdict

The Epicuren Discovery After Bath Body Moisturizer may be a splurge but it's light, superbly hydrating and made my dry skin moisturized and glowy.
