The High-Tech Facial That Boosts Skin Glow in 60 Minutes

Woman with clear skin

When it comes to facials I don’t expect luxury. I expect results. If I want an indulgent treatment I’ll book a massage, but when it comes to my face I want to know that I’m going to leave with clearer, glowier skin and, if I’m lucky, some useful learnings from the therapist that I can put into practice to extend the results of my treatment. Not too much to ask, right? Luckily, Elemis’s new futuristic Biotec Facials tick all the boxes.

The thing is, I wasn’t always as fussy when it came to facials. But over the years, I’ve had seriously indulgent facials that have caused me to break out, and others that were little more than a cleanse, tone, and moisturize that I could have done myself. Elemis’s Biotec Facials are different. Upon entering the room, your skin is scanned and you’re confronted with your complexion on a screen. While it may not make for the most comfortable viewing, it allows you and your therapist to discuss where on the spectrum your skin is and what your goals are.

Within the Biotec menu, there are eight customizable facials to choose from, depending on what the scan results reveal. After the usual thorough cleanse, the therapist selects a skin activator (essentially a potent serum) that makes up the base of the facial and tackles different skin concerns: anti-aging, lifting and firming, resurfacing, dullness, anti-blemish, sensitive, dehydration, and brightening. This is then combined with both touch and technology. The Elemis therapists are well-versed in the art of facial massage, and this is utilized in combination with a choice of technology that also depends on what your skin needs most.

The futuristic-looking machine next to the treatment bed can do a variety of things that the therapist can tailor to you. There's the ultrasonic peel setting, where a spatula attachment vibrates at 27,000 times per second to draw out impurities, boost circulation, exfoliate, and stimulate collagen production. The machine can also utilize microcurrents to firm skin and strengthen the muscles beneath. For dehydrated or dull complexions, the therapist can use pressurized oxygen to blast the active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin to perk up a world-weary face. The galvanic setting takes advantage of our skin’s positive and negative charges to deep cleanse and energize. Lastly, skin is treated to a blast of LED light: Either red light, which stimulates microcirculation and collagen production (leaving behind plumper feeling skin), or blue light to tackle spot-causing bacteria and settle down any inflammation.

I couldn’t tell you exactly what the therapist did to my skin because while on paper the facial doesn’t sound relaxing, I managed to fall asleep. I left with a perkier, glowier, complexion along with strict instructions to drink more water. And, I felt rested from my power nap. Win, win, win.

The at-home products are designed to boost cell energy for better skin regeneration and a brighter complexion. I've used both the day and night cream and noticed a real difference in my skin's tone in just a couple of weeks.
