Have you ever gone to check your face in the bathroom mirror halfway through your workday just to notice that your skin looks like it's experiencing a midday slump too? For those of us wth dry skin, it's not totally out of the question to notice a dry patch and flaking skin as the day wears on. But because dry patches are just about the trickiest thing to try and remedy quickly, we turned to celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas and dermatologist Dr. Elizabth Tanzi to figure out how to make everything look smooth and hydrated before we dare go into our next meeting with flaking skin. See their tips below!
While this first tip may sound all too obvious, we would be remiss to leave it out. To stop dry skin from appearing later on in the day, you need to start in the morning. Vargas suggests her own Rejuvenating Serum since it has good fats like olive oil that both soothe the skin and hydrate it from the inside.
Vargas says that this balm is a "quick fix" for dry skin. It's non-toxic and contains turmeric, which she explains is great for calming and hydrating sensitive skin.
"I've been known to mix my tinted moisturizer with a hydrating product like a little dash of hydrating cream. This won't change your skin tone in your makeup, but can at least calm down that spot that can't be covered with makeup," says Vargas.
To fix a dry patch of skin underneath your makeup,Tanzi suggests using a serum with hyaluronic acid because it won't leave any greasy aftermath behind. Pressing a small amount of oil onto the dry patch will help bind the dry skin cells together and plump them with moisture so you can hide flaking in a pinch.
Tanzi also recommends spritzing some mineral water on your face to refresh and hydrate your skin underneath your makeup (and give yourself a midday pick-me-up, to boot).
