In the quest to end dry lips, we’ll try just about anything, and we have tried just everything. Apart from the obvious advice of regularly exfoliating, using a good lip balm, and avoiding licking your lips, celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas has a tip that’s arguably equally obvious—treat your lips to the same products the skin on your face gets. “In the salon, we use the Rejuvenating Serum ($100) as a conditioner for clients’ lips. Lips can get very dry, and the olive oil in the serum is great to hydrate and soften them,” Vargas says. You put serum on your skin before you apply your moisturizer, so why wouldn’t you put serum on your lips before you apply your lip balm? Makes total sense. The only thing to remember is that this only works with your hydrating serums and face oils. Avoid putting products with active ingredients, like exfoliating acids and retinol, on your lips.
If you don’t have a moisturizing serum you love, you can use a natural oil like coconut oil or olive oil at night for deep conditioning, or shop some of our favorite below!
If you use a micro-roller, esthetician Kerry Benjamin recommends rolling right over your lips to help the nourishing ingredients in your serum penetrate even deeper.
