We all love summer weather, but it doesn’t always bode well for our skin. While a high-tech sunscreen can protect us against nasty burns and sun damage, it can’t remedy common summer skin issues like dullness, dryness, or flaking. To help you nourish your skin this summer in the easiest way possible, we’re sharing three easy DIY face masks by Clara Williams, certified esthetician, aromatherapist, and founder of skinnyskinny organics. These all-natural recipes will refresh your skin and leave your complexion feeling super-soft and rejuvenated. Keep scrolling to find the perfect mask for your skin concern!
What it does: Softens wrinkles, hydrates, brightens
¼ of a ripe, soft peach
¼ of an apple (or all-natural applesauce)
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
-Mash all ingredients together or combine in a food processor until lumps are gone.
-Apply to the face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
-Towel off with a warm washcloth. Discard any unused mixture.
Clara’s Note: “This is a perfect face mask to brighten and boost your skin's radiance with ingredients that revitalize, exfoliate, and speed up cell renewal for brighter, more radiant tone.”
What it does: Soothes, reduces swelling, balances oil production, brightens skin
2-3 inches of fresh cucumber (wash it, but there’s no need to peel it)
¼ cup aloe vera (preferably fresh)
¼ cup fresh parsley
-Combine all ingredients in a food processor, and mix until smooth.
-Apply to the face, avoiding eyes.
-Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove with a cool washcloth.
Clara’s Note: “This is an amazingly refreshing face mask that's perfect after a day of a little too much fun in the sun. Keep some of this in the fridge to get the most out of its cooling effects.”
What it does: Stimulates blood flow, tightens, tones, gently exfoliates
1 tsp. cold black coffee (not decaf)
1 tsp. exfoliating face scrub
-Mix 1 teaspoon of cold black coffee (not decaf) with 1 teaspoon with your favorite exfoliator—I like to use my line’s Exfoliating Face Scrub ($24). This should make a thin paste.
-Apply to face in gentle circular motions, avoiding the eye area.
-Rinse with warm water.
-Follow with toner and moisturizer or serum.
Clara’s Note: “This facial scrub packs a punch that will leave your skin feeling smooth, soft, and ready to face the day. Save a couple sips of your morning coffee, and get ready to glow!”
