No matter the season, our skin never seems to be happy. Winter invites chapped skin and endless bouts of dehydration while summer gives way to oil and redness. Oh, and pesky breakouts seem to be a year-round constant. While it's oh so tempting to throw up our hands in frustration and empty our wallets on a brand-new skincare regimen each and every season, there's actually an easy solve courtesy of Mother Nature: aloe vera.
According to science, the plant can do wonders for the skin, magically mending everything from burns and acne to redness and flakes—pretty much every skin woe that has ever haunted us. Not only is aloe vera's soothing gel budget-friendly and easy to find at your nearest grocery store, but it's also a cinch to incorporate into your favorite DIY face mask, the perfect addition to any Sunday self-care ritual. For application, the sky is the limit (you can even apply it solo!), but mixing aloe vera (which contains goodness like vitamins C, E, amino acids, and salicylic acid) with other skin savers like cucumbers and parsley, is a home run where complexion is concerned.
As MindBodyGreen tells us, parsley will stave off those dreaded midday greasies thanks to its skin-balancing benefits, and cucumber's natural acids (ascorbic and caffeic) will soothe irritated skin and help with residual puffiness (because we know what you did last weekend.)
