Demi Lovato has kept their hair color as is—a rich raven brunette that suits them well. As of today, though, they're no longer sporting dark tresses. Lovato took to their Instagram Stories to surprise their fans by revealing a sneak peek of their golden blonde shade. This is a hair color we haven't seen on them since, well, forever. And even though they only showed a small portion of their hair, we must say, we love blonde Demi.
As with all celebrity hair transformations, we were immediately hungry for more information. Lucky for us, we were able to get the exclusive scoop on their color switch-up, straight from the professional at Nine Zero One Salon who saw it through. Keep scrolling to learn all about it, even to shop the exact after-care products Lovato took home with them.
As you can see, it looks like Lovato has officially made the switch to blonde balayage hair. The color looks warm and sun-kissed, with highlights placed from mid-lengths to ends. It was all thanks to master stylist Amber Maynard, who gave us the lowdown on the dramatic color transformation. "They had not done a change in a while and wanted something new," Maynard said. We get that—sometimes there's nothing quite like a visit to the salon to make us feel refreshed and renewed. Nonetheless, Lovato started with dark, almost black hair, which means it took some time to lift the color without damaging their hair. Two days, to be exact.
"It was a two-day process," Maynard says. They started the process around mid-afternoon on the first day, continuing on at 9 a.m. the next morning. "In order to achieve this look, we had to use two color removers. After those two removers, we then blow-dried them and started highlighting." Maynard, along with her assisting stylist, Anthony Holguin, went to work. "He focused on the back of their hair, and I focused in the front, really detailing the front pieces. As we highlighted, we met at the top of the head, and once they had their foil placement in, we let them process. After they got to the tone, we then shampooed and toned them. We used the Joico Lumishine line to blend and shadow their highlights. We really wanted to give them that shine factor. That's why we used the Joico line, as it really delivers that. Then we proceeded to apply their toner on the ends. They sat for a bit longer, and then they were done!"
As for the after-color care products they sent Lovato home with, it was Joico Blonde Life Shampoo ($15) and Conditioner ($15). Both work together to protect color, keeping it looking fresh and lustrous even after multiple washings. It even corrects any brassy tones that might appear. The best part is that both products are currently on sale at Ulta.
As for Lovato's take on the transformation? Apparently, they were as happy with it, as we were surprised to see it. "They loved it!!! One of the comments she said was, 'Wow, I'm blonde.' They look beautiful, and we are totally obsessed with it." Another day, another happy hair transformation. As for us, we'll be keeping an eye on Lovato's social media over the next few days. Hopefully, there's a blonde-haired selfie in their Instagram feed's future.
