Certain things just sound more luxurious when they were made in Italy. Italian leather shoes, Italian gelato, Italian sports cars, Italian marble, Italian cashmere—it all just sounds so covetable rolling off the tongue. That’s because there’s a provenance and heritage when it comes to Italian goods. You can close your eyes and imagine a pair of buttery leather boots being lovingly made by hand in a family studio that has been perfecting the art for generations.
Italian beauty is no exception: When it comes to hair, Davines is a name synonymous with quality. And, like most romantic Italian backstories, the brand starts with a family—father, son, and house of Davines, if you will. Started in Parma by husband and wife Gianni and Silvana Bollati as a cosmetics research laboratory for other brands, Davines is now a force of its own. Today, Davines creates its own lineups of luxurious products, many of which feature ingredients cultivated by Italian farmers (See? Dreamy).

Davines may have humble Italian roots, but its ethos shoots for the stars. “The story of Davines began in Italy in 1965 when my parents got married,” says Davide Bollati, Davines Group president and son of Gianni and Silvana Bollati. The goal for the Bollati family was to create products that married science, nature, and a respect for humankind. “We see our products as life-enhancing,” he says.
And when the founding family says life-enhancing, they mean both for the customer and the planet. Bollati calls it a balance of beauty and sustainability. “We push ourselves to always be better and do better for both the planet and our clients while creating high-performance products,” says Bollati. It’s a tall order, but Davines has met the challenge. A certified B-Corp, the brand is plastic neutral, carbon neutral, and a leader in regenerative organic farming.
While the brand's ethics would be impressive alone, its products are among the best in the game—loved by professionals and consumers alike. The 9800-square-foot Davines scientific garden in Parma has come a long way from a family-run lab, and today it's a massive hub for researchers. It’s in this Italian garden that the team investigates the properties of plants, essences, and new breakthrough ingredients to create the most effective and luxurious formulas. Imagine a lush garden of sunflowers, artichokes, lemon, lavender, and rosemary—and then imagine lathering all of that into your hair. Bellissima.

OI All in One Milk
If you’re only going to buy one Davines product, this is the one. That’s because it wears multiple cappelli—it works as a leave-in conditioner, detangler, heat and pollution protectant, and all-around great moisturizer while still having a lightweight texture. The main ingredient in the OI line of products is roucou oil, which is rich in beta carotene (vitamin A), making it a great revitalizing elixir for your strands.
OI Shampoo and Conditioner
Another set of superstars featuring roucou oil, the OI Shampoo and Conditioner is a great combo for damaged hair in need of strengthening and hydration, though it works well for all hair types since the oil isn’t too heavy. Both have a powdery scent that actually lasts, so if that’s not your favorite smell, opt for a different shampoo and conditioner combo from the brand's OG Essential Haircare line (the Volu shampoo is another one of our faves).
Love Smoothing Shampoo
You know there’s a lot of love put into a product when you can trace an ingredient to its literal roots. This fan-favorite shampoo for coarse and frizzy hair is made with Sicialian minuta olives from Carmelo Messina’s farm in Ficarra, Italy, part of a generations-long family business. We love its rich, creamy lather and intoxicating green scent (don’t worry, not an olive scent—more of a spring-like, freshly trimmed garden scent).
Love Smoothing Conditioner
Another magical product from Messina’s farm, this mask completely transforms hair into a mane as smooth as Italian silk (with the same fresh smell as the Love shampoo). Fatty acids and vitamin E envelop each strand in a big, nourishing hug with under a minute of processing time, and your resulting hairstyles are sure to be slick, glossy, and fulfilling all your luxurious visions.
The Renaissance Circle Hair Repair Mask
When your hair is begging for an Italian vacation from heat tools and styling, this reparative mask will feel like a complete reset. Yellow clay is copper and iron-rich, which gives damaged hair a boost of nutrition, while Babassu butter moisturizes the hair to leave it bouncier, softer, and healthier than you ever knew it could feel. And while this little packet might not feel like a lot of product, looks can be deceiving—we got about five uses out of it.
Solu Sea Salt Scrub Cleanser
When product buildup or a stretch without washing leaves your hair feeling itchy and heavy, cleansing the scalp for a total refresh is key. This scrub is part shampoo, part exfoliator, and it clears up pollution and residue so your scalp can breathe again. That’s thanks in part to the unprocessed sea salt hand-sourced from the Culcasi family’s salt pond in Trapani, Italy (now in its fourth family generation). Its delightful pink color actually comes from a natural microalgae in the salt pond that happens to pack a punch of strengthening beta carotene. Needless to say, this product has gotten a permanent spot in our shower for self-care Sundays.
More Inside This Is a Curl Building Serum
The Davines More Inside stylers often come wrapped in pretty printed paper, making unboxing a true experience in itself. When it comes to actually using the products, you can layer any or all of them like a cocktail, but the curl serum is a cult favorite. This smooth, milky styler leaves hair feeling bouncy, moisturized, and smooth while fending off humidity and flyaways for polished curls that last.
Naturaltech Energizing Shampoo
If you're not a morning person, we totally relate—it can take a few cups of coffee for us to finally come alive. But we honestly can imagine that in a world where coffee didn't exist, a morning shower with this invigorating shampoo would do the trick. It’s like an espresso for your hair as it kickstarts blood circulation in the scalp, keeping it in tip-top shape for healthy hair growth. Simply lather up and allow the minty formula to work its magic for one to two minutes a few times a week. After just one use, we noticed a healthier, more lively scalp.
