2020 has been a breakout year for Daisy Edgar-Jones. The England-born actress, who previously appeared in series such as War of the Worlds and Cold Feet, officially captured our attention this year with her portrayal as the complicated, mesmerizing Marianne Sheridan in the buzzy drama "Normal People," based on the book by Sally Rooney.
Whether she's gracing our television screens or fronting magazine covers, Edgar-Jones can always be found sporting fresh, cool makeup look IRL. And obviously, we wanted to know all her beauty secrets. The actress recently partnered with Hourglass Cosmetics and shared that her beauty philosophy actually parallels that of her Normal People character Marianne.
"I think we have quite similar approaches, and I loved how experimental Marianne was with her makeup in Trinity," she tells Byrdie exclusively. "She played a lot with eyeliner and eyeshadow. I’ve always been a big fan of eye makeup and absolutely love Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadows. They are the ultimate–easy to apply with maximum impact." Her favorite shade? Vivid, a shimmery olive-based golden hue. The actress likes to apply the shadow using her finger, pressing the pigment onto her eyelid. She then takes a tapered blending brush to blend the shadow across her eye.
Another one of Edgar-Jones' beauty must-haves: mascara. "I’ve also been lucky enough to try [Hourglass's] new Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara, which makes my lashes look incredible. Marianne would definitely approve!"
In wake of the global pandemic, Edgar-Jones' current day-to-day involves doing at-home press interviews (which she's had to do her own makeup for) to chat about Normal People. While doing your own glam may be daunting to some, Edgar-Jones has sat in the makeup chair enough on set to learn a few tricks from the pros. "I’ve learned that primer is everything–for both your face and your eyes," she says. "I’ve also learned how important powder is in keeping your makeup from sliding off your face and onto the floor at the end of a long day. Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder is my go-to, especially because it doesn’t dry out my skin." Given how luminous her skin looks onscreen, we'll be stockpiling primer and setting powder on our next beauty run ASAP.
