Unlike legacy awards shows (like the Academy Awards) that have been around since the 1920's, the Critics' Choice Awards joined the awards lineup in 1996. Since its inception, the CCA's have used a voting system among the Broadcast Film Critics Association "to honor the finest in cinematic achievement"—which means you'll be seeing your favorite small and big screen stars taking the red carpet tonight. It also means we'll be seeing some beauty looks for the books from the likes of nominees like Zendaya and Lupita Nyong'o. (Plus, some Academy Awards foreshadowing, since the Critics' Choice Awards winners have historically aligned closely with Oscar winners.) But regardless of whether or not these stars take home a statue tonight, their beauty looks are award-winners in our eyes. Ahead, our favorite beauty looks from the 2020 Critics' Choice Awards.
Zendaya appears to have tapped Rue, her character from Euphoria, for inspiration tonight. Here, she's wearing side-parted braids by Kim Kimble, brushed-up brows, and metallic eyeshadow on her upper and lower lash lines.
Lucy Hale's 2020 Critics' Choice Awards beauty look includes a warm smoky eye, a pop of mint shadow on her inner eyes (to match her seafoam Miu Miu gown), and her famous bold brows. As for hair, Hale wore a low, tucked pony adorned with a single pearl hairpin at the nape of her neck, styled by Kristin Ess.
Red lips are a popular choice tonight, and we love the way Awkwafina's makeup artist Kirin Bhatty paired her red-orange take on the look with gold eyeshadow and simple black eyeliner. Meanwhile, her hair stylist Marcus Francis used Suave Professionals Firm Control Boosting Mousse ($3), ghd's Helios Hairdryer ($249) and Soft Curve Curl Iron ($200) to creates soft waves—locking in the look with Suave Professionals Flexible Control Hairspray ($5).
Nominated for Best Actress for her role in Greta Gerwig's Little Women, Saoirse Ronan wore a sleek updo (by Virtue Labs creative director Abir Abergel) with classic red lips and minimal eye makeup. Her beauty look was created by her longtime makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua using all Chanel Beauty products.
Nicole Kidman kept things neutral-toned and old Hollywood with dewy skin, fluttering lashes, and side-swept hair. Her makeup look was created by celebrity makeup artist Kate Synnott using Neutrogena and Eylure products.
Niecy Nash is nominated at tonight's 2020 Critics' Choice Awards for Best Actress in When They See Us. For the occasion, she's wearing glossy nude lips (with matching eyeshadow) and sapphire blue liner on her waterline, created by Mila Thomas using Black Opal Beauty products.
That eyeliner deserves a closer look:
For the 2020 Critics' Choice Awards, Mandy Moore is wearing a dual cateye by her longtime makeup artist Jenn Streicher, with liquid eyeliner extending into a wing from both her upper and lower lash lines. As for hair, Ashley Streicher created a look she calls "challah" hair. (Scroll through to the Instagram carousel below to see the back of the hairstyle.)
Kate Beckinsale is presenting at tonight's 2020 Critics' Choice Awards. Her look for the occasion features glossy lips, metallic eyeshadow, and a pop of highlight on her collarbone, all created by celebrity makeup artist Rob Scheppy. To create the look, Scheppy used an arsenal of Giorgio Armani Beauty products, including the Luminous Silk Primer ($42), Luminous Silk Foundation ($64), and Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow in shade Stellar ($35).
The Unbelievable star makes our list for her half-up half-down hair by Bobby Elliot and timeless glamour by Gita Bass. To create the look, Bass used all Dior Makeup products, including the Warm Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette ($49) and DiorShow Brow Styler ($29). Full details on the look here.
