As proud '80s and '90s babies, we have a deep-seated love for anything that resurrects pangs of nostalgia—playground crushes circa kindergarten, the epic combination of Gelly Roll pens and Lisa Frank coloring books, A*Teens blaring on our Hit Clips, and last but not least Hello Kitty, an iconic cartoon character designed by Yuko Shimizu and originally added to the Sanrio character lineup in 1974.
Back in yesteryear, our obsession knew no bounds and we had a stockpile of bed linens, beach towels, board games, clothing, patent purses, (and so, so much more) to prove it. Plus, not so surprisingly, the Sanrio characters also inspired our very whimsical makeup aesthetic. (The packaging of our favorite lip balms, nail polishes, and chunky glitter eyeshadow palettes were often encrusted with their images.)
Fast-forward to 2018, however, and our love for Hello Kitty and friends is hitting a fresh, slightly more mature stride—aka a playful new collaboration between the beloved L.A.-based skincare line The Crème Shop and Sanrio Beauty.
“As a brand that loves to create fun and eclectic products for our customers, a partnership with Sanrio felt natural to us. We’ve always adored Sanrio’s whimsical aesthetic and feel that this collaboration will only enhance the enjoyment our customers receive from our products,” said Olive Kim, executive director of The Crème Shop, in a press release we received. “The best news is this is only the beginning of our collaboration and we can’t wait to create more exciting beauty and skincare products with Sanrio.”
What can you expect from the line? Well, in addition to the obviously adorable packaging, you can prepare your complexion for reform by way of eye masks, lip balms, sheet masks, cleansing towelettes, headbands, bath bombs, sleep maks, hand cream and even Hello Kitty–inspired falsies.
There are 51 products in total, with each of the above product ranges representing different iconic Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, Gudetama, Chococat, Badtz-Maru, Keroppi, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll. Plus, your wallet can officially do a happy dance as the collaboration in its entirety ranges from $4 to $10. We kid you not.
We recommend heading to The Crème Shop's website for a full peek, (although the collection is also available on Sanrio websites and will launch in additional retail doors including Riley Rose, Dolls Kill, Hot Topic, and CVS, among others), but in the meantime, we've rounded up nine products we're personally stoked to stock ASAP.
