As beautiful as they may be, more often than not, couture fashion trends are pretty tricky to translate into the real world. And the same goes for the beauty looks too—just too much glitz for a day in the office. But something about this season's shows feels a little different. Whether it's because the trends themselves have gotten a little more low-key or because we've become a little more adventurous, when following the backstage beauty trends at the couture autumn/winter 2018 shows, there were so many looks we'd legitimately consider re-creating on ourselves.
So we guess the question is—would you? Take a look at the seven most intriguing couture beauty trends below.
Metallic Smoky Eyes at Chanel
Chanel always bring it in the beauty department, and this season's show was no different. The models wore a flurry of smoky metallic eye shadow shades across the eyes with perfectly highlighted skin.
Wrapped Ponytails at Dior
How do you make a low pony chicer? Quite simply, you wrap it. Buy yourself a length of elastic or leather from a haberdashery, and wind it around the hair to create this fancy ponytail even an Olympic dressage horse would be proud of.
Pink Eye Shadow at Giorgio Armani Privé
Pink eye shadow made its makeup bag comeback a few seasons ago, and we're still not done with the shade. At Giorgio Armani Privé, models wore a band of bubblegum above the crease, with a matching shade on the lips. Lime Crime's Venus III Eyeshadow Palette (£34) has some nice pink shades to play with.
Beehive hair at Valentino
Okay, so this level of volume is maybe slightly out of our comfort zone, not to mention practically impossible for anyone that isn't Guido Palau to obtain, but there's a definite lesson to be learned here: Bigger is better. So amp up your own volume with a root-lifting spray such as Bumble and bumble's Thickening Hairspray (£23).
Perfect Winged Liner at Givenchy
Putting in a strong case for some extra eyeliner practice sessions, the flicks that adorned the corners of the models' eyes at Givenchy were so perfect and neat. Don't even try to attempt it without a high-pigment, precise-tipped eyeliner like Stila's Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Black (£15), though.
All the Colour at Ralph & Russo
We're not ones to resign ourselves to any strict makeup rules, which is why the look at Ralph & Russo piqued our interest. Laughing in the face of beauty conservatives, the makeup artists opted for a bold eye and a bold lip. Yes, there's a lot of colour going on, but it works.
Bejewelled Hair Accessories at Zuhair Murad
Our love for hair accessories is unlikely to wane any time soon, especially when we're presented with such incredible options like these jewel-encrusted headbands at the Zuhair Murad show. And the best bit is that they look great tucked into any hair colour, texture or length. ASOS has a particularly strong collection. ■
