One may not expect to find a correlation between cinnamon squares and eye-catching beauty trends, but in 2020, inspiration can easily come from your kitchen table. Since its debut in 1984, cereal enthusiasts alike have happily indulged in the swirly deliciousness of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Now, one makeup artist is using the sugary treat as a perfect ingredient to become a viral sensation.
Meet professional makeup artist and freelance beauty writer, Ashley Rebecca, who recently initiated a cereal-inspired makeup trend that's becoming an autumn-favorite.
"Cinnamon Toast Crunch," Rebecca captioned the Instagram photo, which has inspired other artists to create cereal-themed looks. After chatting with Rebecca, we soon learned that her breakfast-inspired look simply came from experimenting with warm brown and cinnamon tones from the Makeup By Mario's Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette ($48).
"We are in a time where there is so much uncertainty. It's helpful to take breaks and experiment with creativity," Rebecca shares with Byrdie exclusively. "I used shadows 4 and 7 on my lids. Then I blended 9 and 10 in the crease to give my eyes a little more depth."
Ashley shares with us her trick to perfectly blend eye makeup: "I like it when eyeshadow looks blended and continuous, so I lightly blended what was left on my brush up to the brow bone. You can't tell because it's so sheer. I really love using that trick."
After seeing such positive feedback from followers recreating the popular breakfast treat, Rebecca found herself creating more cereal-inspired looks. "It just evolved into this series of sugary styles,” she says.
In fact, the New York-based artist just created a look inspired by Fruity Pebbles.

"Anything can become a trend if enough people like it and find it fascinating," Rebecca says about cereal-inspired makeup looks becoming trendy. "The colors and textures of food are always inspiring when you look close enough."
