Chloë Grace Moretz Never Spends More Than $18 on Makeup—Except for This

Wise beyond her 21 years, Chloë Grace Moretz has a wealth of bold opinions to offer on beauty, confidence, career, and plenty of other topics we like to discuss here on Byrdie. Earlier this month, we published an exclusive interview with the actress—who is now starring in the must-see indie film The Miseducation of Cameron Post—in which she spoke about everything from where she got her feminism to why her eyebrows are so good to sexism in Hollywood and in her dating life. But what we didn't get the chance to publish was the part of our conversation in which we talked about her makeup routine.

Moretz has opened up to us before about her skincare regimen (she's one of the faces of SK-II and mostly uses its exquisite products). She wasn't wearing a stitch of makeup when I interviewed her, so I know her natural skin and brows are incredible. But I was also curious to learn about what she uses when she does paint her face. As it turns out, Moretz's makeup vibe is refreshingly attainable. All her favorite products are under $18 (except for two key items). Keep scrolling to read our little makeup conversation and to shop her makeup splurges and saves.

Amanda Montell and Chloë Grace Moretz

What's your makeup vibe these days? Any favorite products?

I like to play around with it. When I was younger, I did a lot more than I do now. I hardly do any now. I just can't be bothered. But there are some nights where I'm like, yeah, I want to do it up, but then I just do like an eye, you know what I mean? I just buy different color L'Oréal palettes from CVS. I'm the worst. I'm really bad about makeup in terms of like buying the "best products."

No, fuck it. Go to the drugstore. Who cares? It's all color to put on your face.

Agreed. It's just a little bit easier. The only expensive thing I use is like the Clé de Peau cover stick. And then I use Chantecaille blush.

Chloë Grace Moretz Makeup Tips

It's like $80 under the eye, $5 on the eye.

That's it, literally. I use my money on my concealer, that's it.

That's smart.

And Glossier, they have good, good, good stuff. I love the shiny stuff for the eyelid.

Lidstar, there it is. And I use obviously their Boy Brow, and what else do I use? I use one other thing by them. Oh, the lip balm that looks like birthday cake.

Balm Dot Com.

Yes. Birthday Cake lip balm. Get it.
