Yesterday, we went backstage at the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists’ runway show, where makeup artist Lottie Stannard (who simply goes by Lottie) and her team prepped over forty models for the 10 finalists’ looks. Instead of the madhouse we were bracing ourselves for, the atmosphere was surprisingly calm and efficient—which is why we were able to pick up three totally game-changing makeup tips from Lottie after the models marched out. “On all of the looks, we’re using [Maybelline’s] Baby Lips ($5) in Quenched as a highlighter to give a dewy look to the skin,” Lottie shares. “We use it on top of the cheeks, above the bridge of the nose, and for Edie Parker, we even used it on models’ lids.”
“I used [Maybelline’s] Master Kajal Liner ($8) in brown and put it on [models’] waterline, then dabbed it underneath,” Lottie says. “Then, I deconstructed it using makeup remover, just to make it look like they took their makeup off last night, so it looks kind of messy and slept-in.”
We had to ask the name of the taupe-wine lipstick Lottie used on the models for designer Eva Fehren—so imagine our surprise when she said she actually mixed eyeliner in with lipstick to get the final look. “I mixed [Maybelline’s] Master Liner Kajal ($8) in the brown shade with Maybelline’s [Color Sensational Creamy Matte] lipstick ($8) in Divine Wine on my hand, then pressed the mixed shade onto models’ lip with my fingers,” she divulges. “Then, I pressed a little bit of the eyeliner directly into the center of their lips to add more dimension.”
