Every June during the CFDA Awards, the industry's finest come together to celebrate the most brilliant, forward-thinking minds in American design. And while we, of course, love the fashion (it's kind of the whole point, right?), we can't help but get seriously distracted by the amazing hair and makeup looks simultaneously taking over the red carpet and our star-studded social media feeds. However, the 2018 attendees (and their majestically talented beauty teams) truly outdid themselves this year.
Ahead, 12 of our favorite hair and makeup looks we spotted during last night's CFDA Awards. Plus, the exact products used to fashion them. Keep scrolling!
There's nothing more exciting than when an amazing lipstick moment comes in under $10. Enter Maybelline SuperStay Matte Lip Color in Heroine ($6), which Gigi Hadid's go-to makeup artist, Erin Parsons, applied for a bright pop of color to complement the model's gorgeous dress.
Inspired by Diana Ross, Issa Rae's makeup artist Joanna Simkin says the actress's look was all about the sparkle: "In honor of the CFDA host, Swarovski, I wanted to give her eyes a little sparkle. First, I started with Covergirl's TruNaked Chocoholic Palette (which will be available later this month) and used the deep brown shades on the inner corner of her eyes. Then, I paired a loose silver glitter with Covergirl's Look Lock Up Setting Spray ($12) to wet the glitter and apply over the rest of her lids.”
According to celebrity hairstylist Kahh Spence, Kehlani arrived with clean, blown-out hair, so right away, he used OGX Natural Finish + Aspen Extract Texture Molding Paste ($9) to keep her hair in place while he worked on her braids. "I braided her hair into two even French braids and then fishtailed the ends," he confirmed.
Not surprisingly, Kim Kardashian West was wearing a full face of KKW Beauty courtesy of her right-hand makeup man Mario Dedivanovic. We were especially mesmerized by her perfect nude lip—a strategic combination of KKW Beauty Lip Liner in Number 2 ($12) and the brand's Crème Lipstick in Number 2 ($18).
To style Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's romantic, perfectly undone hair aesthetic, celebrity hair guru Jen Atkin used a variety of cult-favorite products, including Ouai Volume Spray ($26), Dyson New Supersonic Hair Dryer Professional Edition ($450), and Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pro Palette ($88) to—wait for it—fill in the model's hairline (a stealthy industry trade secret).
For a polished, glamorous curl, celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan used GHD Air Pink Blush Hair Dryer ($199) and the brand's Curve Soft Curl Iron ($199).
We can't stop staring at model Jasmine Sanders's over-the-top eye look. And thankfully, celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo gave the breakdown on his Instagram. To attempt the look yourself, you'll need Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon in Out of the Blue ($25) and the brand's Eye-conic Longwear Eyeshadow Palette in Smartorial ($49).
Supermodel Lily Aldridge was literally glowing last night, and just like Hailey Baldwin at the 2018 Billboard Awards before her, it was thanks to the glow masters at Vita Liberata (and the model's makeup artist, Quinn Murphy). The specific products in question are Vita Liberata Invisi Foaming Tan Water in Medium/Dark ($39), Beauty Blur Skin Tone Optimizer in Latte Light ($40), and the cult-favorite Body Blur Sunless Glow in Latte ($45).
Olivia Culpo also worked an amazing glow on the red carpet courtesy of makeup artist Daniel Martin and a few of his must-have products from Honesty Beauty—the brand's cult-favorite Magic Balm ($18), which he applied onto Culpo's cheekbones, temples, and Cupid's bow, topped with a healthy dusting of the Luminizing Powder in Dusk Reflection ($20).
"Lili has naturally curly hair, so I started with OGX Protecting + Silky Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray ($9) on wet hair and blow-dried the hair straight with a little body," explained celebrity hairstylist Jillian Halouska of Lili Reinhart's look. "I then sectioned off the front, face-framing pieces and clipped them above and below her brow to create a natural structure.
"To create the romantic updo, I sectioned off her hair in the front and back. In the back, I created two little ponytails at the base of her head and wrapped them around to create an organic bun. I then took the front pieces and curled them loosely, pinning pieces back to create a structural design that framed her face and features. I ran my fingers through the front pieces and sprayed the whole look one more time with OGX Smoothing + Shea Sleek Humidity Blocking Hairspray ($9)."
Two words: gilded lips. To begin the look, celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose lined Lupita Nyong'o's lips in a shade of chocolate before adding a layer of Lancôme L'Absolu Lacquer Gloss in 286 Vertige ($26).
"To finish, I applied the metallic bronze eye shadow shade from the same eye shadow palette I used on her eyes, Lancôme's Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Kissed by Gold ($50). I placed it on the center of the lips, then blended it in a bit and added a bit more of the gloss on top," explains Barose. "The great thing about layering pigment and gloss is that you can really build your own shade of gold, you can make it brighter, more gold, or more bronze."
Just like her fellow Victoria's Secret model Gigi Hadid, Josephine Skriver's enchanting gothic lip came courtesy of a budget-friendly option, Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lip Color in Believer ($9), which makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez applied to complete the model's A+ beauty look.
