We love a good hair muse. People like Olivia Palermo, Carmen Hamilton, and Chloe Hill are right up there because of their effortless but perennially chic styles. Mind you, we're always open to new sources of hair inspiration and Brigette Lundy-Paine has caught our eye of late. You might already be familiar with her as an actress (she stars in Netflix comedy Atypical), or even as a performer (she's also part of a band called Subtle Pride), but career-pursuits aside, her bob is why we're double-tapping her on Instagram.
It's the epitome of a no-muss, no-fuss hairstyle—chopped just above her shoulders and almost always worn with natural texture. She also gives us good reason to call our colourist and ask for another round of balayage.
Keep scrolling peep her best looks (and tips on how to recreate it yourself).
Aside from looking a little bit French (and you know we're suckers for that), the appeal lies in the "I woke up like this" approach. If you want to replicate it exactly, truth is you're going to have to lop off your length. A chin-grazing bob with a few layers around the face seems to be Lundy-Paine's cut of choice.
The colour is essentially a blonde/brown balayage. We've heard a hundred times that balayage is over (because babylights, 4D-painting techniques, and so on), but now we've seen these shots, we're not so sure we're ready to quit. As for styling, letting it dry sans-heat is the best bet for lived in texture, but adding a few curls with a thin hot tong looks chic, too. A thin barrel like Remington's Keratin & Argan Oil Nourish Curler ($40) is best for short hair.
