A Brazilian Fitness Guru Shares Her Best Beauty Hacks

Aside from Korea, we'd argue that Brazil plays host to some of the best beauty secrets in the world. Among the trusted traditions they have bestowed upon the U.S. are Brazilian butt-lifts, keratin treatments, waxing that makes even the most scandalous swimwear possible, and even hair burning. And for proof that they're definitely onto something south of the equator, you don't need to look any further than the country's ridiculously long roster of supermodel exports, including Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Izabel Goulart, and of course, Gisele Bündchen. (You know, just to name a few.)

Now that we're all in women crush mode, there's some untapped Brazilian beauty intel you need to know. We caught up with Ilana Kugel, creative director and co-founder of Koral Activewear, and she spilled some seriously great tips, from her go-to hair remedy to her secret to perfect posture. Keep scrolling for her tips!

1. Coconut water: It's not just for drinking.

We got our first clue about this Brazilian beauty must-have when Adriana Lima admitted to soaking her face in ice-cold coconut water

According to Kugel, it also makes for a great remedy for summer-beaten strands. "In Brazil, women wash their hair with coconut water for hydration after swimming in the salty ocean water," she says. "For a similar effect, I mix coconut water with a mashed-up avocado and put it in my hair for 30 minutes as a hair mask. It's the ultimate way to hydrate dry hair."

2. One of our go-to serums is also a hit south of the equator.

We've professed our love of Skinceuticals' cult-fave serum again and again, and Kugel agrees: "I use C E Ferulic pure vitamin C serum on my face each day for healthy skin. I swear by it because it tightens my skin while keeping it bright."

Kugel vows that she never leaves the house without applying a thick layer of SPF 50 first.

4. Want to have better posture? Get moving.

Kugel's beauty ritual also consists of breaking a sweat every single day—for over an hour to be exact—because, as she puts it, "It's all about focusing on what you like to do and being consistent." Posture is just one of many perks the designer enjoys from her commitment to fitness, saying, "If you develop a strong core and back, your posture will naturally improve!"

5. Choose workout-friendly makeup.

When you're sweating so much, it makes sense to keep makeup application simple. Kugel's favorites include Dior's Addict Lip Glow ($33) and MAC False Lashes Mascara in Extreme Black ($22) because it lasts all day.
