Bumble and Bumble
This week marks the start of all the beautiful, jaw-dropping, and mesmerising looks from New York Fashion Week. On our first day behind the scenes, we witnessed a familiar and particularly of-the-moment style happening at the Creatures of the Wind show: boxer braids. While tight, sectioned braids have been around for ages, the Kardashians—ever the trendsetters that they are—have been spotted wearing them numerous times lately, and in tandem, our Instagram feeds have been blowing up with several other celebrities showing off their plaits too. So did the Kardashian-Jenner clan inspire the runway hairstyle this year? Not quite.
Check out the look below!
“Every other season here, we’ve always been a little romantic,” says lead stylist Anthony Turner for Bumble and Bumble. “This season, I’m swapping that completely and doing something that’s a bit tougher. It feels really nice to do that. The inspiration was Snoop Dogg—they showed me pictures of Snoop Dogg, and I loved his hair.”
Want to try out this look yourself? Here are Turner’s tips for achieving the bad gal braids, created entirely with Bumble and Bumble products: “Create a strong centre part and prep hair with Dryspun Finish ($43) and Thickening Full Form Mousse ($23) for tension and no flyaways. Apply Brilliantine ($35) on the fingertips for added grip, and create a raised cornrow on both sides, starting at the hairline and braiding back behind the ear, securing at the nape with a hair elastic, and finish the braid through the ends, allowing the braid to sit on the shoulders. Apply Thickening Hairspray ($43) as needed to keep the braids clean.”
We love that the braids were cinched midway with another elastic to add just the slightest accent—as a bonus, it also helps stabilise the braids. Needless to say we’re totally in love with this “tough” look.
