To "feel the burn" is a positive connotation in fitness. We want to quite literally feel the aches and pains of our muscles—this lets us know that what we're doing is working, even if we're not seeing immediate results. But to feel the burn with our skincare? Now that seems like a no-no, right? Not so fast.
Usually when I use a cleanser or a toner that ignites a painful tingle, I deem it too harsh to continue using. My skin turns red, and I might start to peel the next day—it's not pretty. But for some reason, I throw this thinking out the window with acne products. Whenever I feel a breakout coming on, I enter battle mode. I won't let it go down without a fight. This means I'm not willing to settle for some sort of sissy treatment—I need the big guns. And most of the time, those "guns" tend to burn a bit.
I know what you're thinking—I'm being too tough on my skin. But for the past few years, those tingling creams have done wonders. So when I tried Stacked Skincare's Body Peel for my body acne (a recommendation from news editor Victoria Hoff) and quite literally felt the (slight) burn, I knew it was working.
Now, now—it's nothing painful, just a split-second sensation that lets you know it's going to work. Technically you're supposed to apply it with the fan brush that's included in the kit, but living in a small NYC apartment, I don't have room for said brush in my already overflowing medicine cabinet, so I just apply it with my fingers. With just a few drops on the affected area, your acne (and dark spots, keratosis pilaris, and eczema) will soon be a thing of the past.
For me, I had some major blemishes on my shoulders. It's tank-top season, and I can't afford to have breakouts staring everyone in the face, so I put the peel to work. No exaggeration—the next morning, the breakouts were gone. I attribute this magic treatment to the glycolic, lactic, trichloroacetic, and salicylic acids working together to kill acne bacteria, dissolve dead skin and sebum, as well as even out skin tone. You don't even need to rinse it off afterward either—just apply and go. It's truly a miracle in a bottle.
