If a beauty dictionary existed and you looked up "dry skin," you would find a picture of me—from my hair to my face to my body. I have tried almost every hydrating product out there, and I've learned what works and what doesn't over the years. An essential, particularly during the colder months, is a decent oil and/or serum. However, given that my skin is also sensitive and doesn't react well to overly fragranced products, I've also had my fair share of trial and error with some oils.

I'd seen the brand Biossance floating around on Instagram and Tik Tok and knew I wanted to give it a try. Biossance's 100% Squalane Oil contains only one ingredient: squalane oil. Shocking, right? Could this be the ultimate product for this dry-skinned gal? Continue reading to find out.

About the brand: Starting off as a biotechnology company, Caroline Hadfield and her team began a project creating skincare products. Thus Biossance was born. The brand develops skincare that is effective, safe, and does not hurt the environment or animals.

About My Skin: Dry with eczema

Moisturizer is a product I always have on hand, and it's the one I buy the most since my skin demands it. I've also experienced eczema symptoms throughout the previous year, and have been cautious about the body products I use. According to its website, Biossance's Squalane Oil is approved by the National Eczema Association, which was a big plus for me. Also, I have an autoimmune issue, and stress may affect how my skin responds; therefore finding excellent yet clean cosmetics is crucial for me. As if my face and body weren't enough, my hair is also dry. To be honest, I do color my hair and utilize heat tools on occasion, but hair masks are my go-to.

My bedtime skincare regimen consists of a cleanser, oil/serum, and moisturizer. I sometimes use an under-eye cream or a face mask, but just around once a week.

The Feel: Runny, but not greasy

The Biossance Squalane Oil has a highly liquid and runny feel, yet it is also quite light and breathable. This product's directions mention that it may be used in the morning and at night, so I did, and most evenings, I would leave the oil alone or seal it with my moisturizer. I alternated the same on my body and enjoyed how it didn't feel sticky at all. The product's instructions mention that it may also be used on your hair, so I put a tiny bit to the ends of my hair and occasionally used it to tame flyaways.

The Results: Noticeably softer skin and hair

When I try a new product, I use a minimal amount to see whether I have any adverse responses. On my face, I used one pump; on my arms, I used two pumps; and on my hair, I used half a pump. Following that, I applied lotion. My face and arms felt very smooth the following day and still looked moisturized. I used the oil solely on the ends of my hair, and after one application, it felt softer.

After a few weeks, my skin seemed much more hydrated, and I even felt as if my makeup applied much more smoothly. I began using it more often on my hair and liked the sheen it imparted. When I used too much, however, it did weigh my hair down. With this product, less is more.

The Value: Totally worth it

The Biossance 100% Squalane Oil costs $32 for a 100 mL/3.3 oz bottle, and because you only need a small quantity of product, this amount should last you a long time. I've tried oils and serums that were more expensive but provided less product, so you get your money's worth. There is also a jumbo size priced at $48 for 200 mL/6.7 oz, which I will definitely acquire after I finish this one, and a portable size priced at $8 for 12 mL/0.4 oz. For sensitive skin, this oil is perfect since it doesn't have an overpowering scent, provides absolute hydration, and you can use it from head to toe. It's worth every penny.

Similar Products: You have options

Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil: A lightweight facial oil created entirely from olive squalane, Indie Lee's Squalane Facial Oil ($34) aids in the treatment of dryness, dullness, and uneven texture. It is formulated specifically to moisturize and protect all skin types from adverse reactions. The disadvantage is that it is more expensive and is not as multi-functional as Biossance's Squalane Oil.

The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane: The Ordinary's 100% Plant-Derived Squalane ($8) is a lightweight plant-derived solution to support healthy hydration. For less than $10, it's got an excellent value. In contrast to Biossance's Squalane Oil, which may be used on the face, skin, and hair, this oil is advised for use on the face alone.

Final Verdict

Biossance's 100% Squalane Oil is well worth the investment. Face, body, and hair benefit from its moisturizing properties and versatile nature. I'll be buying this product over and over again. It absorbs nicely, leaving the skin with a well-hydrated, glowy appearance that lasts. It's a must-have beauty essential.
