If anyone knows beauty, it’s our very own Leah Wyar. Before landing at Byrdie as VP and General Manager, she spent 20 years covering the beauty and wellness circuit for some of the biggest magazines in the business. She even served as a season two judge on Lifetime’s American Beauty Star. So when Verishop (a new shopping platform that offers free overnight shipping) tapped Leah to become one of their tastemakers—industry professionals who create thoughtful, curated shops of the best of the best—she didn’t take the opportunity lightly. Ahead, Leah shares her top picks from over two decades worth of testing products. Pro tip: Order on Verishop by 12/22 at 11:59PM PST for guaranteed 12/24 arrival.
Pai Cleansing Oil
If you’re still scrubbing your lash line with makeup wipes, allow us to introduce you to an actual game-changing, routine-revolutionizing product. Because oil attracts other oils, cleansing oils gently melt away makeup, sunscreen, and sebum, making them an ideal first step in a double-cleanse. Per Leah, this Pai formula smells incredible and won’t leave your skin greasy. Extra credit: it's a Byrdie 2019 Eco Beauty Award winner.
Here at Byrdie, we’re obsessed with testing products that dermatologists actually recommend—and this product is a sunscreen gold mine. “Once I started using it, I've never gone back,” says Leah. “It's packed with antioxidants to neutralize the nasty free radicals that cause lines and spots. But the best part is the feel: so clean, you forget it's on.”
Earth Tu Face Stick
There are a lot of different definitions of what constitutes “clean” beauty out there, but we love this brand’s philosophy: don’t put something on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth. Think of it as your dry skin hero for wherever you might need it—dry knuckles, elbows, puffy under eyes, cracked cuticles, and beyond.
RMS Luminizer Quad
Leah’s famous for walking around the office in "weekend skin"—glowy, glossy, minimalist. Basically, she looks like Labor Day in Montauk every day of the year. She credits her lit-from-within radiance to this hero highlighter quad from RMS. Trust her: No other highlighter does it like this.
Tenoverten Ideal Reds
If you’re anything like us, you spend more time staring at the nail polish wall than *actually* getting your nails done when you visit the salon. “Be prepared with this—a collection of three perfect [reds]—and never be annoyed again,” says Leah. “And forget three-free. This guilt-free collection is eight-free.”
Leonor Greyl Lait Luminescence
We’ve written about French girl beauty once or twice, but of all the products we’ve tried, Leonor Greyl is Byrdie’s product line du jour. According to Leah, this product is a godsend for bleached, porous hair and leaves your scalp smelling like you just stepped out of a regal salon in Paris.
Kora Organics Rose Quartz Heart Facial Sculptor
Cute shape, serious massaging power. Leah uses this cool-to-the-touch stone to de-puff her under eyes and provide sinus relief. The notch in the heart also makes this tool perfect for sculpting your jawline. Pro tip: just don’t forget to use with an oil or serum to avoid tugging on the skin.
Rituel de Fille Lip Sheer
If you forced us to play desert island beauty, this sheer, buildable lip color in shade Bittersweet would win the lipstick category. “It’s quite possibly the perfect rosy lip tone,” says Leah. “If I could only choose three makeup products? This, mascara, and the RMS Luminizing Quad (see above).”
Ghost Democracy Clean Lightweight Daily Face Moisturizer
Looking for the ultimate clean, non-greasy daily moisturizer that doubles as a base for makeup? Defer to Leah. “I remember the first time I heard about this new, ultra-clean skincare line: Someone from my team had just done a ‘deskside’ (industry speak for a product launch that happens at your office) and was blown away,” she says. “Not just by the products alone, but what wasn't in the formulas. Their site lists about 40 no-nos, which is a huge yes for me. And if you find it tough to find a guilt-free, basic moisturizer...well, winner winner.”
