One of the best things about yoga is that it provides a more peaceful way to work up a sweat. What’s not peaceful, though, is getting stuck in traffic on the way to the gym—or trying desperately to cram a couple of classes into your schedule when none of them seem to fit. Don’t get us wrong—we love an in-person yoga class. Yoga studios offer a tranquil experience we just can’t recreate in our own home, and it’s nice to know that an instructor is there, watching for proper form. But we’d be lying if we said we didn’t also love online yoga classes—and all the freedom they provide.

The good news? Online yoga classes don’t just exist—they abound. There are tons of amazing courses out there, and many of them deserve a spot in your routine. We’ve compiled our favorites below, so you know exactly where to start based on your goals and your preferred style of yoga.

Peloton has every kind of yoga class imaginable. The platform boasts 20-minute beginner flows, 45-minute advanced flows, and everything in between. There’s something for everyone, and since new videos are uploaded every day, you’ll never get bored.

Book a virtual spot in a live class, catch up once a class is finished, or sift through Peloton’s ever-growing library to find your next workout. The platform makes it easy to filter classes by length, type, and difficulty level, so you don’t have to worry about getting overwhelmed by all the options.

And if you ever feel like switching up your fitness routine, you can explore some of the other online courses Peloton offers (including cardio sessions, strength-training routines, and of course, some of Peloton’s signature cycling classes).

Yoga with Adriene offers a high-quality experience—and charges nothing for it. But even if the service wasn’t free, it’d still be really great.

Adriene Mishler has been uploading yoga videos since 2012. And over time, she’s amassed a large and diverse library. Comb through her channel, and you’ll find more than 500 yoga videos ranging in length, style, and difficulty level. (Even if you’re looking for something really specific—like “yoga for chefs”—you’re bound to find it.)

If you’re just getting started with yoga, you may want to begin with one of Adriene’s 30-day journeys and monthly challenges. These organized programs will give you a list of yoga classes to tackle in order, so you won’t have to waste time figuring out which video to play each day. 

Since Mishler only posts one new video per month, it’s possible to run out of classes. But if you find yourself really loving Yoga with Adriene—and craving more of it—you can always join Adriene’s Find What Feels Good community, which costs about $10 per month. That way, you'll have access to even more yoga videos.

Best for Beginners: Glo

And the platform’s filters make it easy to sift through all these videos. Sort classes by style, length, skill level, and intensity. Or, take advantage of the service's goal-based filters—like “start your morning,” “find relaxation,” and “build strength”—to find classes that meet your needs more broadly. 

Glo’s large, diverse library is a real asset. But the best thing about the platform is how beginner-friendly it is. When you sign up for a membership, which is about $18 per month, Glo will help you “choose your yoga journey.” This will lead you to one of two beginner-friendly paths, which you can follow to start building out your yoga practice. Each path will give you more than 16 videos to work your way through, helping you build a foundation in yoga at an intensity level that works for you: All you have to do is show up—and stick to the program.

Many online yoga programs are tailored to beginners. But My Yoga Teacher does a great job accommodating every skill level.

Sift through some of the platform’s free group classes, and you’ll find every type of yoga imaginable—available at different speeds, intensities, and skill levels. With a free membership, you can enroll online in these classes and take them live. And if you end up missing a class, you can catch up by watching a recording of it. (However, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid membership for about $29 per month to gain access to the entire library of classes.)

What Are Online Yoga Classes?

Yoga classes are traditionally taught in a studio or at a gym where an instructor will typically lead a group of students in a series of exercises. (This group can be small or large, depending on what space allows.) At the beginning of each exercise, the instructor will stand at the front of the room to model the posture for their students. Then, they will move around the room and physically adjust students to ensure that everyone is practicing with proper form. 

Online yoga classes are just a modified version of this practice. Often, an instructor will lead a lesson the way they normally would—modeling each posture, and telling students what to do next. But instead of speaking to a group of in-person students, the instructor is just talking to a camera. (Because there are no students to adjust, the instructor will remain on-screen throughout the practice.) Students can access these videos online—either live or once they’ve finished recording.
